I will need some helps about the keyword

I start my website, Marcus's Online Marketing, a few months ago. This is a home based business niche. After that, I find that the keyword I use for my website is too competitive. I am recommended to use a new keyword, if possible, target a different niche.

So, do I really need to start all over again?
Or I just need to change the keyword I use right now?

Your website is new and thus you can easily change your niche. Your posts will rank above your main page for most search terms so start by writing posts on whatever you now want to target. An easy way to do this is to find search terms with 500 searches/mo. Then rank the blog posts and end them with a call to action so people go to your main page.

If you don't want to do SEO, then find somebody here and pay them $300/mo or so to rank your blog posts. After a few months you will have some good traffic coming in

A keyword tool, such as Wordtracker, can help you determine how much serious competition there is for different keywords. It can also give you good ideas about alternative, less competitive keywords to target.

Remember you're not trying to rank a site for a keyword, you're ranking a page for a keyword.

So, if you want to rank your homepage for online marketing make that a long term goal.

Then, write blog posts obviously related to online marketing, but targeting easier to rank keywords.

For example, you might write a post for "How a stay at home dad can make money writing" (now research, just making this up). That keyword might be really easy to rank for.

That will drive traffic to your site, etc.

I don't think the keyword you could have picked is too difficult? What matters is the quality of the seo buddy. If you wish shoot me a pm with your keyword, and i can check the difficulty etc. and report back with some feedback.

    Hope that helps.

You do not need to change your niche. You can just target better keywords and as another person has said, do blog posting along with many other things such as social bookmarking and blog commenting. You have a be patient though.
