I'm not even appearing for my keywords! How do I change this?
I used seocentro.com to check the ranking. My competitors all show up but I don't. I haven't paid for any backlinks, should I buy some or figure out whats wrong with my site. jewelrybynorman.com is my site.

Thanks for the help

Well, it could be that your site is ranked, it's just that its very far back and any tool you are using doesn't check that far back.

Or, if it's a new site it might not even be indexed yet.

Simply put, yes, some backlinks will definitely help it get indexed and in turn help your ranking.

How long has it been? New domain or old? Other factors matter.

If you have a new website then check on google

    " site:yourdomain.com and press ENTER !
If it shows your website then dont worry your website will be surely indexed

and if you are talking if your website isn't ranking for any particular keyword then try some BACKLINKS

    Regards

I check your site and it's not even obvious at first glance what keywords you are targeting!

Is it "classic jewelers"? Or "fine jewelery"? You have to clear on which keywords you want to promote on your site right from the beginning.

Also, your site only has one backlink. It's no wonder you are not ranking, you have to improve your on-page SEO and get backlinks to your site to make it rank.

Thank you everyone for the responses!

The keyword im after is "cash for gold" or "jewelry".

I will definetely purchase some backlinks. I thought I was building backlinks myself but I guess I did it wrong?? I submitted my website to a ton of directories.

My website is only 2-3 months old btw.

Thanks for the help, much appreciated.

Submitting to directories is not enough. These links are low quality ones and usually don't even get indexed, as they don't carry any content.

You should get some quality contextual backlinks to your site, with the right anchor text. You can outsource it or do this yourself, just make sure your links are coming from pages with non-spam content, otherwise your site could get harmed.

You needs backlinks to rank, lot's of backlinks, on-site is only 5% of the equation, I've ranked sites that didn't even have the keyword anywhere on the entire site purely from backlinks, Google relies heavily on backlinks to rank sites.

Well it is important that you ensure you select the best keywords expecially when the site is new, to rank faster. But there is no way you can look to compete with anyone if you don't have quality and as much as possible, quantity backlinks. That is in essence that is wrong. A previous poster said you only have 1 backlink. This is terrible. You can't rank anywhere with just one backlink. So you should look into getting some backlinks for your site.

It is not the number of backlinks, but the quality of it weighs more..Gather more quality backlinks for your website..But first, make your on page good and make your website search engine friendly..

The competition for those two keywords is phenomenal. It would take a continuous linkbuilding campaign months to rank for those words in Google, not to mention every single one of your pages would need to be highly optimized for the product your trying to sell.
My suggestion would be to make your target keywords more localized opposed to trying to straight out bash your way through the serps for keywords which you may not even end up ranking for.

Build backlinks to your site (or hire someone to do this tedious work for you), using your targeted keywords as anchor text.

For those keywords you're going to need a crapload of back links and a heck of a lot of time to rank. Look at the competing sites and check out their back links and you will get an idea of what you need to do to rank. Best to take the advice above and go with something less competitive at first to get some traction while working towards your more competitive terms.

Google loves sites that are popular. Find forums that you can post on that are "relevant" The more relevance the better. If you have other sites get them all tied together. The more popular you are Google rewards you with Ranking. Be aware that it does take time to see results. SEO is also very important and plays a critical roll.

I can help you with the backlinks for your site Ramzy.

Or alternatively can offer you some 1-1 coaching and teach you how to do it yourself as well as how to research your keywords and competition properly so that you will know which keywords are you likely to be able to compete for short term or long term.

We need to chose some different kewwords for your site. The current ones you are aiming at are too generic which means the competition is way too high. You need long tail buying keywords which mean the visitors you get will be buyers rather than researchers.

I also can tell you right now that you need more text content in your site to have a chance at competing. Most of your pages have next to no text and will be penalized by google for this reason alone.

Feel free to add me on skype and we can start sorting this out for you.

    Let's be totally honest here...

You could not care one bit if you rank nationally for those terms. You want to rank LOCALLY for those terms to drive traffic to your retail store.

I'd highly recommend you find someone here on the Warrior Forum who specializes in "Local SEO" and discuss your needs with them. They will be able to give you an estimate of what it will take to get your site ranked higher on Google for searches in Orange County.

They can also work with you to get your listing ranked highly in Google Places (Maps) which may be even more important to increasing your business.

You need local citations to drive your rankings higher for local searches. The money you spend on a good quality LOCAL SEO expert will pay off very quickly.
