Market Samurai - Why you should NOT count on Historical option

While doing SEO Competition for a keyword, a URL showed 1200 Page Backlinks, I clicked the result to make Page Rank analysis and it returned only one backlink, same thing for Anchor Text analysis, one backlink only.

So this raised many questions, I had to go for trial and error to see what is going on.

I took the same URL to Majestic SEO (which Market Samurai Counts on):
1200 backlinks, and 253 referring domains
I tried to do more analysis and viewed the top 5 backlinks:
4 of the results Majestic SEO displayed no longer have a link to the URL!

Digging a bit deeper, I used the same URL on ahrefs.com showed 44 backlinks, and 1 referring domain. which seems more reasonable and true.

What is the answer? Yep! it is the huge difference between Historical and Fresh Index option. to get more accurate results, Fresh would be your option.

Here is what Market Samurai thinks of Fresh Index:
please note that the Fresh Index only includes links built in the last 30 days, so this number will be considerably lower than the Historical Index number for established websites. This is normal. To get a better picture of your overall number of links, please use the Historical Index
However, a recent blog post on Majestic SEO stated:
Why use the Fresh Index? The Fresh Index gets updated every day! If a link is worth its salt, it will be in there - whether it is new or has been around for years. Infact - you will often find a link there before you even find it in Google's Webmaster Tools. (We would love users to test this for us.)
