Keyword Help.. am I doing this right?

Hi guys! I'm a newbie in need of help. I have some keywords I want to try and rank in, but I think I'm doing something wrong, or in the least, need a program.

For example, one of the keywords for my blog I'd like to use is Printable Coupons. When I go to Blekko.com to check out the competition in terms of seeing how many links a website is getting (example the 4th one down) it shows they have 17,213 incoming links. But when I go to the 5th link down, it shows 153,058 links coming in. I'm under the assumption was that I'd just have to beat the number of links that link #4 is getting.. but why is link 5 higher with inbound links?

I'm obviously doing something wrong, or doing it right and need something different to analyze the keywords. Can anyone steer me in the right direction on this?

  • Links are not the only way to improve your results in the search engines. Fresh, relevant content now plays a major role.

    • That is absolutely true. Just the amount of links have never been more important than the quality of the links.

All the panda factors are now the most important part in SEO.

  • The quality, not the quantity, of links is important. The fourth site down probably has backlinks on pages with a higher page rank than the fifth site. Also, the on page optimization of the fourth site is probably better for the targeted keyword.
  • Thanks guys! This makes sense to me now.
