How Much For Google Placement Ads?

I have a trading product I sell, I created a new campaign, turned search off, I wrote a plain adwords ad and selected approx 160 placement domains using trading as a keyword, set a $50/day campaign limit, set my CPC to $0.05 and waited for 1 day, nothing happened.

I've been increasing my max CPC by 0.05 increments, now at $0.15, still nothing happening, no impressions, is this just an expensive market for clicks even on the content network?

  • Hi kenwarrior,

Placement ads can be very expensive if you are placing them on sites with lots of advertisers competing for ad space. However if it's only been one day, your ads probably haven't been approved yet. You must wait for a human review before they will start to display.

I would suggest making your starting bids much higher and then lower them after they start to get impressions. This will give you valuable data to use when planning your bidding strategy.

    • With the max CPC still set at $0.15 today I started to see a few impressions on a couple of sites (out of 167) but I noticed these were not the best sites, more general sites so the clicks would be cheaper I suspect

I'll raise my CPC to $0.20 today and see what happens
    • My ads were text only, not images, I did not think they would have a human review?

  • you should look the status when you click to the keyword, it'll show you how much should you incrase

    • There are no keywords, it is a placement only campaign
  • I have the same problem as Kenwarrior. I found I could never find my ads online when I searched. Probably because I didn't bid as high as the competition. Do you have advice of how to master this technology. I have since stayed away from adwords as I seem to not be getting it.

    Thanks in advance.

Even if you spend $.50 per click, I don't think you will get a better result... sorry but google is very expensive... try spending your money in long-term seo.

    • I agree, I am focused on SEO but wanted to give placement a try as I've recently done a makeover on my site and wanted some quick feedback
  • I've increased my max CPC to $0.25, still only getting very few impressions, I know that the trading niche is a VERY expensive keyword niche, I have several trading niche content adsense sites where I sometimes get $3+ per click, still I thought I'd do my own research this time rather than relying on Guru's
  • ok, I closed the campaign, trading keywords are too pricey for this product, will focus on SEO!
