Im looking for a keyword research tool preerrably free but im willing to spend if necessary.

Ive used googles adwords tool but apparenty its inaccurate. So here are a few things i would like the keyword tool to have
- give me an indication of how difficult it will be to rank highly
- give me an idea of how many clicks (how much traffic) i can expect for e.g. being on first page

Ive heard brad callens nichefinder may be able to help me out with point 1 but im worried that as it uses google adword tool it for searches. it may just divide the searches by the number of sites or something like that.

Please help!

It's difficulty rating is complete bull**** though. It also tells you nothing about the quality of the backlinks a site has.

Use Traffic Travis and then use SEO SpyGlass to check out the backlinks of the top sites.

From what I can figure, it bases its difficulty rating largely off the number or results in the SERP. It factors in other things too, and I am not sure exactly what else it uses. If you run a bunch of keywords through it though, you will quickly see that the number of listings is a big factor.

Anyone that tells you to use the number of listings in a SERP to determine how difficult the keyword is to rank for has no idea what they are talking about.

Secondly, it only checks the number of backlinks a page has. It does nothing to check anything further about the links. The number of backlinks is almost useless. A site could have 20,000 backlinks, but if they are all PR 0 and PR n/a pages, it will be a piece of cake to outrank. Not to mention it doesn't tell you what anchor text is used in the backlinks.

That is why I say its rating system is bull****.

I was wondering what are good indicators of how hard it will be to rank no.1 or on page 1.
    • Should I check page rank of all of every one on the 1st page and i dont know average it to see how difficult it will be to get on page 1
    • Or should I use something like seomoz/traffic travis' site authority rating
    • what im hoping to do is actually make my own kei formula

The problem with these methods i think are that site with high page rank or authority may not be well ranked for that keyword

    Do you have any suggestions?

    Please and thank you!
