If you are targeting highly competitive keywords then of course this is another story, it can be time consuming and costly, getting good position is one thing but maintaining it is much more difficult because of the high competition. Wouldn't you rather dominate lower competing markets with reasonable search volume?

Simply keep testing and finding low competitive products from Amazon that have perhaps just launched and are about to get big quick and I will quickly write a post or review about the product that has just launched and get this up in the rankings real quick.

Think about Amazon.com products like "Electric Bug Zappers", very low in competition but a high demand product particularly when it first launched many years back, so again check the trend of these products before setting up sites for them.

So when you find something that seems relatively popular do a
search in google.com for those keywords and check the competition. If the competition displays; About 1,000,000 results or lower then you're in business. (You will see the results after you click search underneath the keyword)

Making Money from this by promoting virtual products

If this is done correctly you can make very good money from this. You can use Clickbank trends tool to monitor new products that have just been launched. I like using them because all of their products are virtual and there is no shipping involved, so customers don't have to wait for the goods, its instant.

The idea is to have many niche sites doing this and you will reap the rewards, this is called passive income!

Again you don't have to do it this way, you can simply write an interesting post like "How To SEO Your Blog Posts" and write about steps and discreetly mention the Keyword Winner plugin with your affiliate link so that when readers click the link you get commissions too. There are discreet ways and non discreet ways, I recommend you mix up your posts with both.

Google Trends and Competing Pages

Now one thing I will say is don't focus on how many searches the keyphrase gets with Google ads tool, because REMEMBER, we are focusing on niche with low competing pages of around 1,000,000. (And generally those get between 0-100 searches a day) The only 2 tools we shall use for this example is Google Trends and Competing Pages.

Again you don't have to register loads of domains, you can post a review here and there about a product and optimize that page.

This is almost all I am doing right now (mostly Adsense Though), I have to say though I have not done much with Amazon so I will be testing it shortly.

Good information, except you shouldn't be looking at the number of competing pages. Just because a site mentions "keyword" doesn't mean they are trying to rank for the keyword. You can have just 10 competing sites for a keyword but if each of them is driven by a SEO marketer you will still have a hard time. The only way to find out if ranking will be hard or easy is to check the sites currently on page 1 and what kind of backlinks they have.

      Hey Maraun,

Sure that is possible, but not likely on the examples that I gave.

Also if you are going to check to see how many backlinks another site has, it would also pay yo check other KPI's as well, such as PR.

I agree. The top 10 results in SERP are the most important to analyze. Use tools like SEO Quake and Majestic SEO to check if you can compete in this particular keyword or not - Google them as I can not post links yet.

yeah this is a good recipe but there are some good tools out there that will save you a ton of time in researching the low hanging fruit...namely Micro Niche Finder. Competing pages is one factor...but there are many other factors too that one should keep in mind. Elements to your website....like getting exact match domain. Some sites with decent search volume and buyer keywords that I have..well they might have 1 or 2 links....but still get on page 1 in the SERPS because of the exact match domain.

Just Google Market Samurai. The free trial shows you everything at a glance including an in-depth look at the relevant factors that put the top 10 Google results where they are. I easily save myself 5 hours with any niche phrase hunt.

The only thing I would say is that IMO targeting phrases with less than 800 exact match searches is a waste of time unless they are 100% buyer phrases like [buy electric bug zapper]. Sometimes the lack of competition (especially a lack of Google ads) is an indication that the phrase is more for "tire kickers" than buyers. Just my personal experience.

Completely invalid way of analyzing competition

I can find kws with that number that may be very difficult to rank top 3
I can find kws with double that number that would be extremely easy to rank top 3

depends on the backlinks and SEO profile of the top sites, competitions, not that number you talk about

This is correct. The competition on first page is the most critical part in ranking.
