Yes, add them whenever and wherever you can. The more on-page SEO the better,especially on products pages where your competition may have neglected their own seo.

is this what some companies charge you for when they say with can improve your seo? and get you on page 1 or 2 of google?

Meta tags gives additional information about your website or web page to the search engine spiders. Some of the search engines have meta tags also as an important factor in ranking a page in SERP.

Yes, these are very important (especially if you're a Wordpress user). If you want your website's rankings get boosted in no time, you better use them. This is actually much better than nothing at all.

No need to add Meta Keywords. Just fill meta description and title with content guidelines of Google. It is very important.

Ignore just about every reply in this thread.

You need to worry about the title tag. Meta keywords are useless. In fact, you would be stupid to use them. No search engine that matters uses them. All you are doing is giving away your keywords to your competitors if you use them.

Meta description will make no difference for SEO. Search engines do not use them either. I think it is far better for click throughs from the SERP not to use them. Wikipedia does not use them, and they know far more about SEO than anyone in this thread. They also rank for damn near everything.

my site is live and business has slowly but surely been picking up, seem to get the greater response from putting links on websites such as gumtree/ ebay etc... to my site as majority of customers look for items on there

Definitely add the meta tags when and where you can. It will assist in driving more traffic to your site, it gives a brief snapshot about your business, it helps the google crawlers locate your page and assist in ranking it.

It doesn't take very long to add it and the value is worth the time put in to do it.

Dear me, like Paul, and the 2 Mike's said above it is completely meaningless these days and makes no difference whatsoever to rankings. I honestly can't believe these kind of questions are still asked but far more scary are the junk replies above let's hope they were just kidding!

Oh yeah and the OP actually makes no sense or is extremely challenged in his command of the English language. For example, "i have 300+ off each car broken for spares". What does that have to do with the price of cheese?

Haha people who think anything but the title tag is really that big of a deal or stupid.

I personally have not seen anything accept the title tag mattering. Not content, not h1 tags, not alt tags or meta tags or any tag for that matter. Its all worthless accept the title tag.

I will disagree with you there. H1 tags still seem to play a role in rankings. And alt-tags on images... if you know what you are doing, are a great tool to utilize.

I am not saying they don't, i just cant honestly say I have personally seen them change anything. I had none of these done on one term, changed them and no serp changes (im talking 500 pages). Changed just the title tag and bamb page #2. Build backlinks, boom #3.

So im just saying personally I have not seen it.
