Baffled By Google Index... I Should Be Making 1K/Month!

A little background is probably in order:

I've been working on a site over the past few months, in order to make money with adsense.

There are over 230 original, keyword targeting pages on this site now.

At one time Google indexed about 140 of them, but it has dropped down to 10 for the past month or so. Two days ago I added 40 new pages *all original* and none were indexed.

My adsense earnings hover around $3 per day, with only 10 pages indexed. If only HALF my pages were indexed I'd make close to a 1K/month.

Warriors, I'm stumped.

Any ideas on how to get more pages indexed?

Thanks,

Coz

    Make a sitemap
    Ping all the pages
    Social bookmark all pages
Make the individual pages optimized for longtail(s)

Don't just stick with Adsense either. Find some CPA or product similar to the niche and promote that along with Adsense so you can spread your revenue streams in case one fails allowing you to make a lot more money than $1k a month.

    Good luck!

      Hi Coz,

When you ask "Any ideas on how to get more pages indexed?", do you really mean to ask "how to get them ranking on SERPs"?

If your pages truly were indexed and then were dropped from the index, this would indicate a problem with your website. If this is the case then go to Google's Webmaster Tools to learn what is causing the problem.

If however, your pages are indexed but simply not showing on the SERPs, this is a matter of SEO and promotion of your website.

Let us know which of these different issues that you need help with!

        Hi Don,

My pages were indexed (about 140 at the most) but that number has dropped down to 10. Those are indexed have great SERPS (i've built some backlinks and focused on on-page SEO).

I checked with Webmasters tools, and found no errors in any category.

Thank you as always for your help!

          Don's right..

I think you need to some deep linking promotions.
In other words get linbks to your site that link to individual pages not just the home pages, this will definitely get things working again..

Also try pinging your article pages, using
          http://www.pingomatic.com
          http://www.pingler.com

and this will get the spiders back

          Hope this helps

Is your content unique? Have you submitted your pages to articles directories like Ezine? If you have, then your pages are being de-indexed by Google's duplicate content filter.

Make sure every page on your site is unique and not found elsewhere on the web, especially on higher ranked sites like Ezine. Only submit to Ezine what's different than on your site.

And remember, indexing takes time. Those 40 pages you just uploaded might take up to 3 weeks to be indexed, depending on your site's PageRank and on how often you've been updating the site over the past few months.

Otherwise, I see no reason why your pages would be de-indexed, unless you're using blackhat techniques that go against Google policy (like hidden text, cloaking, link farming, etc.)

              But, to the original question...

Without more details and probably an examination of the site in question it's hard to say exactly what's going on. If you don't note any problems in Webmaster Tools then I'd say the most likely problem is the lack of links, both in terms of internal linking structure and incoming external links to deep pages. But that's just a guess.

Duplicate content? I gotcher duplicate content right here:
"To conclude, I'd like to point out that in the majority of cases, having duplicate content does not have negative effects on your site's presence in the Google index. It simply gets filtered out. If you check out some of the tips mentioned in the resources above, you'll basically learn how to have greater control about what exactly we're crawling and indexing and which versions are more likely to appear in the index. Only when there are signals pointing to deliberate and malicious intent, occurrences of duplicate content might be considered a violation of the webmaster guidelines."
This is from a Google spokesperson on the Official Goodle Webmaster Forum. I think I'm going to start quoting this particular piece of duplicate content a little more on the WF.

                  Well said LoreCee,

Way too many are absolutely obsessed by the very mythical "Duplicate Content Penalty".

Anyone who has been on the web for more then 5minutes, and that actually makes money from their websites (the doers not the talkers), know that this is a great urban myth!

                  Congrats on posting this..

                  Take care

                    Coz,

Just curious. Are any more of your pages indexed now besides 10? What is the status of this site now?

As long as you do not have duplicate content and you are pointing some internal link juice and some external link juice to all 140 pages then they will be indexed in no time (also check and make sure that you title tags, meta descriptions, and meta keywords are unique from page to page).
