I was wondering what in your experience, are the most powerfull types of backlinks? Social bookmarks, articles, forum profiles, blog comments etc....

I recently order some forum profile backlinks but I ain't seeing any link come up in google yet. The links have been pinged.

How long will this take? And what is your experience with forum profile backlinks?

Also I found this article on the web:

8. Buying Links

While buying links may not get you banned, they can certainly hurt your page rank. Google has slowly been catching on to this fad and has measures in place to put your site in limbo for 6-8 months (known as the "sandbox effect") so you can't instantly benefit from buying links to your website. Many sites that sell links are being devalued by Google, making an investment in this strategy a waste of money and time. Ultimately, stay away from buying links to increase your ranking.

Any thoughts?

They are the worst links you can find. Little to no ranking power, almost never get indexed, frequently get deleted by moderators, rarely stay indexed... and they are all PR n/a or PR 0 links.

    Good luck

Thats ridiculous. Google has 0 way of knowing if someone purchased backlinks or not.

Yes these are very powerful but only few number of authority sites allow people to post backlinks so only SEO experts can give you a good number of these backlinks for inexpensive price.

Most (not all) forum links are a joke. I once did 20,000 links to a tiny EMD niche site to see what would happen and it did nothing to help the site's rankings. And yes, Google knows about Squidoo, HubPages, Buzzle, EzineArticles, etc.

I have ranked site on long tail keywords ONLY on forum profile backlinks using less than 50 per keyword. Sometimes it happens over a couple months, sometimes takes longer. Say what you want, they work in certain circumstances.

Google no longer gives as much weight to .gov and .edu links.

The best links to get are high PR home page links but these can be expensive and will often cost a monthly fee. For affordable solutions I would say blog networks are the best links for results.

Remember though just build them all for link diversity.

The most powerful types of links are actually the votes which are gained in an editorial way, usually as a result of adding quality contents to the websites and blogs and so, winning some quality, one-way links from other sites moderated by experts and admins. Relevancy issues would be playing big roles in here because if you gather even a few strong links from relevant pages which are more or less connected to the subject of your site, the effects on your ranks will be huge.

This is why getting some links from authority and old directories can be great because usually the links will come from pages with contents covering the niches which are related to the sites contents. Some links may also come from within contexts of blogs and they too can be strong if the blogs contents are related to the primary keywords targeted. In terms of link building, quality of the votes would be determining factor, and not merely being on the lookout to raise links counts.

Wow it seems like there is still a lot of uncertainty when it comes to backlinks. Links that worked for one persone did not workd for the other...This doens't make it easier :'(

In the eyes of Google buying links is indeed treated as black-hat SEO method. That doesn't mean that there aren't great ways to buy links and get results, but be careful with buying backlinks, as many of the sites the backlink seller use to create the backlinks are known for selling backlinks already and as Google said themselves, it may not do good for your site.

As for profile links: They worked pretty well in 2010, but they are pretty much dead now. From my experience, only about 5% of all the profile links I create get indexed (and that after pinging all of them (!)), so I would say it's a waste of time.

The best kind of backlinks you can get is content backlinks coming from within high-quality (and preferably related to your site's content) content... You can get this kind of backlinks by making content contributions to blogs in your niche in exchange for the blog owners accepting a link or two to your site within the content you contribute. Or you can submit your spun or un-spun articles to blog networks, such as BMR, UAW or AMR and get this kind of backlinks, as well.

    Hope this helps.

I beleive the most powerfull links are related with your website.Like if you get one backlink which is related to your niche it is equal to 100 other links.so try to get more backlinks from related niche.

I see newbies always asking about backlinks, content, domain names, aging, keywords, etc.

Here is my answer to all newbie questions: If you are serious about IM then figure it out yourself and here is why. I spent a few wasteful years reading, spending money on ebooks, links, WSO's, etc and asking people how do be successful at IM. Most of what I learned then was useless garbage. I got nowhere. Sound familiar?

I started trying experiments to see what is true and what is BS. Now I have a system that works and is much simpler than what everyone was telling me, especially about keyword competition.

Backlinks oh boy!!!!....there is so much BS out there about backlinks. I spent thousands of dollars on all kinds of backlinks and software like scrapebox. I blasted website with thousands of links....and never ranked or made any money. Blog comments, forum profiles, directory links, forum links, edu links....never worked for me.

I even had a SEO company backlink one of my websites with a variety of types of backlinks (500 per month for 3 months) and it disappeared. It was on the 3rd page before backlinking. WTF?

I'm glad I had to figure it all out because now I know what works and I just repeat it for new websites. You would not believe how UN-complicated it really is!!! And I do not spend much money...about $100/month.

This is by far the best post in this forum.

Test what works. Make sure you have a good lab environment for your testing.

Alot of what is said on forums like this is misdirection and scare tactics.

Also other thing it depends on size on your site. If its a large site proper site taxonomy and indexing can help just as much as backlinking.

I would say backlinks from authority (and even non-authority) sites within your niche are the most powerful backlinks. This gives signals to search engines that your site it known and within you niche's online circles... other type of backlinks also help of course such as forum and blog comments, but I believe links from relevant sites are key.

They will also help you get relevant traffic too

  • Purchased Backlinks are generally the worst kind what i would recommend is using a tool like seo moz or linkdex they both have free trials and analyze competitors back-links this give you an idea of what they are doing and whats working for them and they you can see what works the best

Obviously the best bet are organic back links so writing some good original content will help your cause a lot

I really don't see what all the fuss is about ...
It's pretty simple logic if you watch any of the videos that google puts out, their goal is to provide search results that are meaningful therefore they're looking for links that are relevant that people actually click and use, links that create a community...
So here's the biggest tip and it'll save you so much time and possibly even money....
Get out there in the community and provide some value to their communities... post, help people out and don't be a spam-whore... be relevant, now this may take you a bit to get down to a science but you'll find that it is one of the best ways to really increase traffic and better yet, it'll be targeted ... because you didn't go to a yarn forum and talk about your 5 step plan to creating 10 step plans ... did you?!

I haven't read through all the responses here but the answer to your initial question is that everything you listed there is wrong! Find real websites and blogs that relate to your website. Offer them some sort of benefit or compensation for linking to you. Those links will retain their value and you won't get penalized by Google. It's not easy and no one is going to do 1,000 of them for you for $29.99 but that's real SEO.

The most powerfull backlinks that you could possibly get are: Contextual backlinks using your keyword as anchor text placed among highly relevant content on a actual high ranking pr page. The easiest way to get these type of links is by using a link broker like textlink brokers. These links are the most powerfull that you can possibly get period!
      {{ DiscussionBoard.errors[5561863].message }}
  • The most powerful links are those that are dofollow, originate from a page/site with a high PR (greater than 6), and have your targeted keyword in the URL of the page that the backlink is placed on (or contextual). To make this link even more powerful, build backlinks to the URL with your keyword as anchor text (by social bookmarking, blog commenting, etc).

I would suggest to go for a variety of backlinks instead of getting a similar kind of backlinks. The best backlinks for your site are ranked below:-

1- Sites that are relevant to your niche.
2- Links from .edu and .gov sites (As they are difficult to obtain, hence Google trusts them)
3- Links from social bookmarking sites (As they can be a signal for your online popularity).
4- Links from Blogs (Blogspot, wordpress, livejournal etc). They can be a crucial factor in getting some backlinks from high pr domains.
5- Links from squidoo and hubpages (These are trusted by google as they do some excellent work in shredding out duplicate content and maintaining the quality of the site)
6- Links from article submission sites( As they can get you some relevant backlinks).
7- Links from profiles (Very little effect but still pass some value).

I agree with everything SEOFORU saiys in his post. The people who have commented here with build great content and they will find you have no clue, in my opinion. I have a couple of sites that are nearly two years old, have great content (perhaps not correctly SEOd), provide answers to questions and don't even sell anything and I never got anywhere close to the top ten pages for any keyword for either of them until I recently started with various backlinking services. In less than a week, these two sites have moved into the top ten pages for many keywords and, hopefully, as I continue to build the backlinks, they will move up onto the first page.
Really stinks putting a ton of time and effort into a site not to have anyone ever see it. Even worse when it's a money site.

Links from certain sites count as more than others, even if the PR is the same.

Best is .edu, .ac.uk, .gov, .gov.uk and then also links from respected sites such as the BBC or DMOZ.

And one way is much much better than reciprocal.

      Great advice guys!

I've been backlinking for a couple of sites now with amazing results!

      Mainly:

      -Social bookmakring, EDU/GOV, H-PR links/comments/posts.
-Also 2nd and 3rd Tier backlinks in profile links and blog comments.

I've done this all semi-manually. With this I mean that I do use software but I manually sellect all the sites for the links. And I "blast" a few every day. (max 50 links).

I've done this for 5 sites micro niche (amazon) sites. And 3 of them are on page 1 now and get a good amount of traffic(and some sales)

I also manually searched for related blogs/forums to post my links to.

Good stuff. I finally god a good set up I can rely on!

I think the most powerful backlinks of them all would be contextual links from your articles. Content is king, and you should take advantage of it by putting links on your anchor text within the article. Just make sure that the content is written or spun in high quality.

Here is a short story of links:

Profile links will only harm your website's ranking Google don't like it any more.
Article links are good but when ever you submit an article you have to make sure if your article is indexed other wise its garbage. Same thing with Social Bookmarking, Forum Posting, Directory, Press Release. The only links which you don't need to worry about indexing are Blog Comments. When you are searching blog comments pages from search engine it means these pages are already indexed by search engine and you just have to make sure that your links are stable till Google next crawl on that page.

I use blog comments and article links to rank any website and using backlinksindexer.com to index links.

    I hope it will help

Question: What if I created many of these forum profile links...is it a lost cause to try to rank with better HQ backlinks?

I wouldn't worry about this too much, unless you get slapped with a penalty. Most forum profile backlinks never get found by Google. So as long as you didn't blast a page with 100K forum profiles you should be fine.

        Just continue backlinking as normal.

Sounds familiar. In the beginning, all you can do is read, because you have no idea where to even begin. If you haven't studied alot of marketing, advertising, and web development it can take time to wrap your head around everything... but it's only a matter of time.

What type of links did this seo company build for you? did you see them?

Back linking is useful way to get traffic on your website only if you always used those linking which are related your website, I think otherwise you can get traffic very short period, so i think there would be not use full for your website.

I skimmed the thread after reading the first ten or so posts. So I apologize if this was stated earlier. In my experience, the most powerful backlinks are in context high pagerank anchored with your keyword backlinks. Ideally, your backlink will be in the body of contextually relevant unique text (not in a sidebar, footer, or in a resource box).

What you are looking for are backlinks meeting the above mentioned description on pages with PR of >1. The lower the outbound links the better (although some studies suggest that OBL does not effect ranking power).

Forum profile links : Very less effective
.edu and .gov : Google doesn't give any preference or weightage to them
I believe the most powerful backlinks are high pagerank homepage links with same niche websites. What you say?

  • Try to focus on obtaining backlinks that are: dofollow, from high PR domains, and contextual (relevant to your keyword), as these are the best type of backlinks.

Very great info here. I have some questions. Please help me understand these
    1. What is homepage contextual link? Is it a link targeting to your website's homepage?
    2. How much PR should a page have at least to get backlinks from?
    3. How can I learn PR of a page?
    4. Can I use my keyword in anchor text while making a blog comment? Do website owners allow this?
    5. How can I learn whether a link is dofollow or not?
Thanks for your answers in advance...

The most powerful backlinks are natural ones, ie, some famous blogger mentions your site in a blog post, you get mentioned on a big authoritative site like a news site, or your link is added to some list of resources at a university or school or other organization, get featured as a cool site of the day, and things of that nature.

The best backlinks are the ones that you don't have to build.

This can really only happen when you have great content that people want to come back to and share with others.

It does not mean that what method you used to use to get backlinks to the site but the more important thing is that whatever method you make use of, use it effectively with providing best quality content in your submission and post. And yet blogs, articles, social bookmarking and video methods are best methods which provide quick results if do it appropriately. And forum is also good method but it take some time to show the results but those are for the long term.

The "most powerful" types of backlinks ARE relevant backlinks from blogs/forums in the same niche/market as you.

      You might find this interesting.
