Importing website - duplicate content penalty?

Hi,

I want to import my site an all of its content from a self hosted wordpress blog to another self hosted wordpress blog.

Once Google completely deindexes my site, is it okay to publish the exact same content from my old blog without a duplicate content penalty??

    Hi,

    A better way to do this would be to create 301 redirects for each page that you are moving. This essentially tells the search engines that the content has been moved and does not hurt your rankings like simply switching to a different domain and hoping that the search engines figure it out would.

      Okay, but I don't want to do a 301 redirect. I want to completely get rid of the old site and simply use the same content on the new site.

      Google has already deindexed my old site and it is nowhere to be found in the search results. Will I still get a duplicate content penalty on my new site?

    mgreener was right. And if you ever need help with coding redirection, there's a one good response from an overflow user to a sitewide redirection inquiry and it covers individual redirection too. I am not allowed a link in post yet, so try this query on Google "@stackoverflow sitewide 301 redirection with a subset of different redirects"

    Yeah, you're best bet is to 301 otherwise you will be dinged for dup content. Any rankings you had with your old blog should transfer over with the 301.
