Find traffic sources for competitor website

I found another car enthusiast blog that is no better than my blog. Yet his Alexa rank is in the top 100k and his compete data shows he gets 4xs as many visitors.

How can I find out where he is getting his traffic from?

  • He could just be buying traffic to inflate his Alexa rankings in hopes to sell this blog at some point to someone who wont do their due diligence when researching the site. Other than that I am not sure if there is a way to figure out exactly what his referrers are...
  • I doubt he is buying....its just an enthusiast car blog

but I am wondering if he gets traffic via RSS feed, blog sites, or something like that.

If so wondering how to figure that out
  • Maybe it ranks for more longer tail keywords than you.

Try checking this serps positions. Ahrefs.com has a tool for that. Surprisingly, it's very accurate.

    • ah what a cool tool. It does seem that he ranks for many more keywords than I, Plus he has more indexed pages.

      thanks!!!
  • Yeah ahrefs is probably the best replacement for Yahoo Explorer. My only gripe is that they are finding backlinks which are marked no-indexed. I pay their subscription and I have a current sub for opensiteexplorer. I may cancel them this month since they don't update their index in real time.
