What Are Your Methods In Keyword Research To Find Sub-Niches?

Hi warriors!

I'm currently having trouble brainstorming for long-tailed keywords. By long-tailed keywords I don't really mean keywords like these:

main keyword: cookie monster
sub-niche keyword: cookie monster stuff toy

Instead of that I mean things like...

main keyword: Improve Golf Swing
sub-niche keyword: Improve Iron Swing
sub-sub-niche kw: Master Sand Wedge

Things that are logical semantically but are not based off the same root keyword. Does anyone have any ideas or resources on how to brainstorm for these?

Thanks,

Hi Natalie, I like your explanation of your question. From that explanation, I think you are close to the answer you want if someone else doesn't find it here. I am at a similar point---having achieved my initial SEO goals, albeit on low traffic terms. Time to reread your question and get ideas.

It's what you do when no one is watching
that determines what you will be able to
    do when everyone is watching.

@DavidSneen: Mmhm, I've been led around in circles and decided to stay with slowly building up traffic through LTKWs.

Bump. Does anyone have any advice on how to brainstorm for these? I was told the WF was really responsive, lol.

      Love,

I get what you are trying to do. The only way to brainstorm like that is to really know your niche. I, for instance, and into golf and have never played. I don't know what in the world an iron swing or master sand wedge is and wouldn't know to search for either of them until I came across them while breaking down the niche.

Yup. I've racked my brains really hard for this and I seem to keep missing out good phrases for keyword research.

How about a competitive analysis tool? Would anyone have some recommendation?

For finding sub-niches in keyword research, I think you need a paid tool like Brad Callen's Niche Finder Tool. It works like a charm, you should try it.

  • I use Scrapebox for this.

    Thanks,
You're addressing the devices and implying the problems.

    Improve Golf Swing
    Improve Iron Swing
    Master Sand Wedge
2 and 3 are the same thing as the first, just the first one addresses all clubs and 2 and 3 address particular clubs.
Address particular problems with all clubs and each individual club.

Solve the problem and imply the device:
    - "longer tee shots" - solves a particular problem - not enough distance off the tee - and implies the device - a driver is used for a tee shot.
No one but a golfer looking to 'improve' his 'golf swing' with a driver will search for that.

    - "straighter fairway shots" - same thing with irons.

    Try this...

Use the GKT, enter your keywords in, then analyze the data. Take keywords from those results, open a secondary GKT and repeat the process. This is one way of finding additional keywords.

Additionally, perform a regular search within Google, and copy/paste the "related search terms" typically found at the bottom of screen into the GKT.

Lastly, try performing URL searches within the GKT against your competitors websites. This should bring you a few suggestions you may not have considered.

That should be enough to keep you busy.

There are so many tools that can do this for you automatically. It doesn't make sense to try to figure it out manually. I actually just released a tool for this.

If you use broad search instead of exact, and dont click related to this word, it brings up a lot of related kws that you might not have thought of

Natalie, I'd definitely recommend Keyword Sniper Pro 2.0 from Jack Duncan. Can't praise it enough. I think it would provide exactly what you're looking for, and it'll pay for itself in no time.
