I have G+ dont really use it. It seems to be growing but I don't think it will ever overtake Facebook. It's just another profile to take care of...

Social search as a category though, CAN overtake Google but it's not clear if it will be G+ or Facebook (which can easily enter search market). If FB Likes counted as +1's and Google would show the results according to that, then it's big big hit for SEO. Not end game because if you are looking for something on G but you aren't logged in to your account then normal SEO results would show up.

SEO is not a single thing. G+ is already a part of the search engine optimization, but don't look at it as one and only thing. You should ALWAYS mix different methods of improving serps.

G+ was the social media answer to Facebook's "like" button.

Yes, i think Google +1 is future of SEO. This will also effect ranking some where.

Google is planning to promote the +1 feature in the search results.
Google might have seen the writing on the wall that +1 is way behind "like" so to get the users to +1 more than "like" sites will now be ranked according to the +1's they have got.
It also establishes the authority of the users who have visited that site.

Google have modified and included content from Google Plus profile in the search results. This shows that its very essential for SEO webmasters to be active on this social network.SO I think Plus one may effect ranking in future beside Links.

I'd say that G+ is the present of SEO already.
If you don't have a G+ account yet and are not using G+ to promote your brand - it's high time you did it!
The users are now being shown pages from their/friends' G+ accounts right inside the search results (it's Search plus Your World, baby). Why not grab this opportunity?
