Another backlinking question!

Ok I'm finally starting to develop what I hope to be a solid link building strategy (thank you warroom). One thing i still don't grasp which I'm sure is caused by nothing but lack of experience, is how to most effectively build links so I'm not wasting extra time.

1.) The keyword you're targeting currently has a page ranking in the #1 spot in Google with 1000 backlinks to the page. 800 backlinks are pr 0, 120 are pr 1, 40 are pr2, and 40 are pr3...assume all other factors are in your favor. Across what pr sites do you spread your link to and how many each?

2.) I'm building micro niche sites. I am always looking for EMDs like bestcrockpodotcom. Every thing I'm reading says to get .edu and .gov backlinks yet when analyzing my competition they never have any of these backlinks. Would me building these ed/gov links be "out of character" for these types of sites? Using the criteria from the 1st example how would you build your links including edu/gov links in your build? Giving the above criteria again what would be considered as linking too aggressively?

Thanks for the help guys/gals you will make a warrior out of me yet!

    This is duff advice.

There is ZERO benefit from .edu domains above any other type of domain - that's why you're not finding the other top sites (or your competition) having them.

This is very old and out of date seo advice which for some reason people don't take the time to test and are still repeating.

Don't waste your time chasing .edu domains - just focus on traffic levels, high Page Rank and relevancy.

Based on how Google advances at the moment, there is no need for EMDs anymore. In fact, just focusing on ranking a single keyword per website can be fatal. Instead the goal should be to work the best workable system at the moment.

I find aged domains to be highly effective, and I use only aged domains for my current Adsense flipping projects.

Here are two obvious, but highly effective strategies on how to rank keywords:

    1) You set up a website with about 20 pages with the intention to rank all 20 keywords. This might be a standard model, but still works really well. Definitely don´t open up a website with less than 10 pages, because you want to have the benefits of leverage and the possibility to rank more keywords with SEO optimized pages.

    2) You set up a website with about 20 pages with the intention to rank the homepage for a couple of keywords. For instance you write a homepage that is optimized for the keyword "outdoor wicker furniture". Now, you can rank the website for "outdoor wicker furniture", "wicker furniture", etc. In this instance, your website is automatically optimized for 2 keywords, so you gain extreme leverage.

The most important thing to realize however is that you have the right system in place before you start. Make sure that you consider the project, how you go about it, how much you will invest, etc.

There are still good and bad .edu and .gov links. Might be worth high PR forum profiles for these types of links, but wouldn't expect much from them other than link diversity.

Quality links and diversity would help you maintain a ranking.
