Site won't rank for keyword

I have a site that has been up for awhile (6 months or so), and it will not show up on any google search for my primary keyword. I have written keyword optimized posts on the site (without stuffing), and done all the same SEO that I have done on other sites I have on the first page of google.
The site is not banned, and does rank for other (less profitable) keywords. I would think I should at least be doing the google dance with this keyword, but nothing. Any ideas?
Thanks,
Steve

use a tool like market samurai and scrape 100 words deep and see if it pops up

Also, hopefully it is a .com .net or .org

Yes, it's frustrating and can even be maddening at times but keep it up. Be consistent and it will get there.

Perhaps which keywords you are targeting have very high competition so in that case its not easy to get rank on first page.So you will need to work hard and build some high PR do follow and relevant backlinks.
    Thanks

  • What kind of backlinks have you built to it.
It's all about quality backlinks in my opinion. As soon as I worked this out, I never had issues getting my sites to rank.

Thanks so much for the replies!
I have been building backlinks via forum posting, article writing and some social media. Obviously not enough though. I'm just surprised as my other sites appeared at least in the top 50 quite quickly. It is a .net, but I don't think that is a problem here. As you all suggested, I will continue with the backlinking and add quality content to the site.
    Thanks again.
