Hi many people think getting links from high Page Rank site is a good idea.
But if we look at the calculations of Google Page Rank, the value of it is shared among
all the outgoing going links!

If you don't trust me, read an article I wrote earlier on and comment here:

  • It is good idea..if you get PR7 or PR8 Links, Your page will jump real fast. I did one time on KW myspace layouts which is really hard to get in 1st page..within day, my site jumped to 1st page from page 8. Of course site topic has to be related but who knows how Big G works. many PR0 links as affective as one high PR link but I still prefer High PR links since it gives my site PR boosts as well since I am a contexture link seller and directories owner which brings good free incomes in autopilot.

  • Well all relevant incoming links are good for offpage SEO efforts. However it will simply take a lot more lower page rank incoming links than high PR incoming links to boost your page rank. So yes you will boost faster and need fewer inbound links to get the same results if you get some higer PR sites linking to you.
  • This is very true. Regardless of how high a PR is on a web page, the number of outgoing links on that same page play a large factor in how much of that PR is "shared". While I'm not a huge advocate of PR because I think people put too much value into it, it is important to remember that the fewer the links on the page, the more of that PR will get passed on to you.

  • Hi, good to know about the links. I thought it was just high PR all the way. I will have to look into my links and see if they are hurting my PR.

    Thanks for the tips.
  • I wouldn't know anything about this as I use the nofollow attribute.

    • If you focus on PageRank manipulation you risk becoming a target of the spamdexing teams at major search engines.

There is not much benefit in PageRank manipulation, but it is a good thing for your competitors to waste their time away on.

Getting quality relative links is really beneficial, but PageRank is not the payoff, it's targeted traffic that is the real payoff. Profits generated from sales to nofollow and low PR traffic sources spend just as well as any other profits.

Personally, I'd rather have a little green in my pocket than a little green line.

  • PR sculpting and the nofollow attribute are great and should be considered for a number of important reasons. The most important being if you're linking to a bunch of sites without the nofollow and they end up doing something to get them banned from Google your site will get googleslapped as well.

    • I disagree with your statement for one simple reason; you can build backlinks to a competitor's site from banned websites and get them slapped! Your backlinks may not count for many reasons (ie. banned sites, only building links from one source etc) but they will never hurt you.

  • If you beleive that back links high PR sites does not help then give me some links on your high PR sites for FREE
SERP is everything in my business and being on page 1 of google brings a very high volume of sales which is not seen if you are on page 2 3 4 or 5
The only way I know to be on page 1 is Adwords or backlinks + on site SEO of course.
Any offers of free so called not woth anything back links on high PR sites will be gratefully recieved
  • Thanks Zoobia and IowaGirl. Good to know because all I thought is when you have a high page rank incoming link it will for sure bump up your page rank. I didn't know that those are shared or something like a split with the other sites getting the juice form high page rank sites. So form now on I have to check it out if how much is being distributed or shared... But how can I check the link juice coming from a high page rank site?

Any comment or does anyone willing to share how I can know how many outgoing links from a particular site?

    Thanks
    Oling
  • That's the basis behind PageRank, the higher the PageRank, the higher the SERP page rank...in general. Also someone said you cannot make money purely based on PageRank.... think again. People will line up to get a dofollow link from a high PageRank site. I've see people make $200-$500 a month selling links from their high PageRank sites. Sites with high PageRank get spidered on a regular basis, and for some people that cannot get indexed, its a great value. It also provides link reputation to that site because you are being linked to from an "authority site"
  • Well blackbookproject. For some one sells their links, yes a high PR does contain some value but I really mean you can't just blindly follow the high page rank thing. For webmasters who are selling links, the same principle does apply anyway (PR is shared among all the outgoing links on a web page). Beside a new site can be easily indexed using forums signatures in different places. It's not that hard. My personal record will be 7 days to get a new site indexed. Of course some might get it faster. But did I really need high PR link? No not at all. If you are offering free PDF download, you can pretty easily get search engine to notice your sites because of the traffic it generates e.g trough sending emails, twitter, facebook, RSS feeds etc.
