I think blog commenting and forum posting are two very effective techniques to get links? But I recently heard that Google doesn't give importance to the links taken via blog comments and hence they have very less significance in improving SERP rank.Is it true? If so , then which techniques to use for link building?

It's useful as long as your comments are not out of the topic. You will get high exposure from the audience and Google also.

If you do blog commenting for backlinks it's not important to be relevant topic, if you do it for traffic then you should find a relevant topic, but I think that finding a high PR dofollow, same topic blog is a bit hard to find. I am a bit newbie, so I maybe wrong if you have other opinion please tell me.

Now a days also blog commenting is very useful. It helps in search engine ranking, just your comment should not out of the topic.
Other than blog commenting and forum posting, you can do directory submission, social bookmarking submission, classified posting and article submission.

It's true, Google doesn't give a lot of importance to links from blog comments. Also, you want to avoid "no follow" blogs. The blog administrator can set a flag to tell google to ignore links, and then your link is effectively dead and it does you no good.

Using blog comments for link building is a commonly used strategy, but I don't usually recommend it, unless it's the smaller part of a larger push. It works, but it's not a link building strategy you want to depend on because it's not considered to be a very "valuable" link.

The whole point of Google's newer algorithm is to pull links from the actual content (meaning the blog article itself) because the content is supposed to be relevant. What you really want to work on is how to get your link into the content itself.

Generally speaking it's not a bad idea to put your URL in your blog comments, but don't lean on that as your main link building method.

As per me both these methods still be useful to get more results and through the blog comments one can get the quick benefit if has provided the meaningful content in the post. And forum be helpful at the long run. And google still values both these methods so as per you need to make use of these methods to get results but with providing the useful content which people liked.

Spamming and commenting are two different things. If you do a blog comment on post with few OBL it's worth something but if you get your comment on post with 100s OBLs it's worthless.

Well talking about blog commenting, no-doubt it helps in improving the ranks in the SERP but you have to consider some points about blog commenting.

    1. Your comment must be relevant.
    2. Do not spam the blog.
    3. Make a comment that contribute something to the blog.

Its important to have all kind of links from different platforms coming in, so don't limit yourself to commenting on Wordpress blogs only as there is also Disqus, Facebook fanpages, Youtube channel commenting just to name a few. It doesnt always have to be dofollow, nofollow links on high PR sites are almost just as valuable but their won't be any juice running.

A small example: I blasted the hell out of a site of mine with 150k crappy links to see if I could get it sandboxed / deindexed. Well I think the sandboxing is accomplished lol as my visitor count took a huge dive, but with the latest update my PR reached PR5 so thats awesome but it ain't worth anything in terms of ranking.

Make sure you also add in some contextual article links, social bookmarks, web2.0s, forum signature links, wiki links and what not. For very easy competitive search terms I don't go through all the hassle of a wide diversity, I just stick to a few dozen quality links from private blog networks like BMR or HPS, it costs only a little bit and saves you tons of times. For the more competitive terms I try to get a wide variety of links, it costs some time and/or resources but it will pay back well enough to justify.

But it entirely depends on your efforts, you need to find good blog which contain some great content and your comment should be genuine and informative so blog owner can approve it.

SB blasts have lost some power, definitely. They're still effective, just not as much as they once were. So I personally use them to "backlink my backlinks."

If I'm pointing comments directly to my site I'm making sure that they're quality comments from (for the most part) moderated DoFollow blogs.

Very true. As long as you don't point them directly to your money site, it could *slightly* build your backlinks' backlink. I use to do SB blasts, but now I don't even waste my time on it anymore. I found more effective link building strategies.

I've been doing purely dofollow blasts with success. Have pushed a # of sites up pretty quickly. Long term? Who knows. But it's definitely helped over the past few months.

It's a PAIN building a 100% dofollow list. But once you've done so it's worth it IMO.

Blog commenting and forum profiles are used more these days as Tier 2 links.

Of course if you can get a high PR backlink with low OBLs then great, but there are other more effective means of ranking sites these days with the recent devaluation of these links.

Blog Commenting is Good and Effective, but for that, we need to find relavent blog to our website. It takes a time to find niche resources and post a comment, also it's not sure that all comment links will be live and yes, don't forget do-follow. Also it depends, how many no's of quality and related blogs you can find or get in limited time and compare same time with other link building activities.

If link building is target than get back link benefits by forum posting.

Every link is important. So you can consider blog commenting. But you must try to get links from relevant blogs and also should try to add best text with comment. Blog commenting is not very powerful today but yes it plays any important role in ranking. Some says don't get link from nofollow, but google still consider the nofollow link in search ranking algo. The good example is wikipedia. Getting links from wikipedia gives you free traffic + help in ranking as well.

Blog Commenting is a great way to build quality backlinks.
Before that you just need to consider below points:

Try to comment on Blog page with good page rank. More the page rank more its worth.
Select a blog which is bit old or seems to last long to get the benefit for long.
Search for blog or blog post related to your keyword or website theme.
Some blog requires register or login. So if you find such blog with good page rank, register then visit regularly and comment it will allow good anchor text links through good commenting.
Comment in your own word elaborate your review relevant to the blog post and smartly place the anchor text link in the way that is allowed or not allowed according to the comment posting rules.
Following comment rules is a must so that after several normal comment the blogger or moderator will approve your future comments finding you as a genuine blog reader.
To get into Top Commentator and get its maximum benefit comment regularly on blogs where such facility is available and make sensable comments with link or without link suiting the best.
This all a bit. Try it and get good results.
