Hi
I have a question regarding offsite SEO and Onsite SEO. I am currently looking into creating my first niche site. I've read up a lot on keyword research and a lot of other general SEO stuff.

While doing my research with market samurai I found quite a few keywords where the competition has little or no onpage SEO (meaning the Title, URL, DEC, and Header tags don't mention the keyword I am targeting)
but they have a good amount of backlinks good pagerank etc

Which is more improtant? Onpage SEO or Offpage SEO?
When I check the anchor text of the backlinks they aren't targeting my keyword.

Does that mean If I create a site around that keyword, build backlinks with my keyword anchor text I should rank in the top 10 soon?

The keyword I am targeting has aprox 680 daily broad searches and 33 exact daily searches.

I am planning on starting a niche site that promotes clickbank products around this niche.

The domain name that I plan on using is keywordHQcom

Based on this info anyone with experience think I should go for it? Am I missing anything?
This would be the first step into IM and I would really appreciate your suggestions.

Thanks in Advance

I cant say, if you should go for it based on the info you have given. But, if the on-page factors of your competitors are not strong, you have a great opportunity to outdo them. The only instance, where you may not able to outdo them would be domain age. But you can compensate it with some High PR backlinks. All the best for your new venture.

Onpage and offpage obviously work together. Only doing onpage will only get you so far, only doing offpage without thinking about onpage will take more time/links to rank.

In your case where your competitors hardly did anything on onpage and don't use much keywords in their anchors it would be fairly easy to break the top 10 yes. This last week I did a ton of kw research and on many occasions I saw a PR0 site with hardly any backlinks rank at page1 between all PR4+ domains. Purely cause of their terrible onpage simply cause no one is targetting that keyword.

the only thing I care about on page seo is internal linking. And for competition check use serpiq, better and faster results. If you check high quality sites you wont see bolding 5% or some wicked stuff. So do not pay attention to it. imo social matter means the most. So off page seo looks more important.

    Hi,

Definitely use both. If you do the onpage right, you might find your rank rather high without doing much linkbuilding if the competition is not doing onpage nor targeting the keyword in their own backlinking.

If your keywords competition is very low, you should optimize your On Page first.
just follow clickbump or easy wp seo, then you can do you off site backlinking.
You just need some "quality backlink" to get reach first page.

The saying I always use is "Offpage SEO gets you in the top 10, Onpage SEO will keep you there".

When you aren't in the top 10, Google cannot use metrics like Bounce Rate and Time on Site because they can't easily compare your site to other sites ranking for the same keywords. So links are what matters most for establishing authority.

However once you reach the top 10, they can start to look at Time on Site, Bounce Rate, and other metrics that determine the quality of your website. If you don't have good Onsite SEO, expect your trip to the top 10 to be very short lived!

Like the other guy said, dont over optimze your onpage seo, you won't see big sites doing that, just do

      Title
      H1 tag
      alt img
      preferably keyword in url

and mention your kw naturally once or twice in the content and do a bit of internal linking and maybe 1 outbound link to an authority site, really dont bother about bold/italic/underlined/h2/h3/density

ps dont even think about nonsense tools like seopressor, that is so old, we live in 2012 now.

You need both. It doesn't make sense to have a super optimized site without any backlinks. The same thing for the other way around. So you need both.

    If you were "forced" to chose one of them to start with, I would say onsite SEO because the offsite SEO is dependent on it (for both the deep linking and association part);

    * do an indepth analysis of what keywords you want to target (you must do this anyway, otherwise you won't know what you need to associate the backlinks with - the anchor texts I mean)
    * work with the structure of the site, keywords in URLs etc
    * write really good keyword rich unique content (don't overdo the keyword thingy)
    * work with internal linking
    * work with the outbound links (and do it naturally, it's quite annoying to see sites where ppl always set nofollow to their outbound links)
    * work with the relevance of the site
    * call the images and other resources e.g. PDF files what they are (e.g. an image of a book about SEO at an ecommerce site should not be called "762823681276.jpg", but instead e.g. "the-day-i-discovered-that-onsite-seo-also-was-crucial-for-rankings.jpg" ) .
    * set ALT texts on images
    * work with the meta descriptions (this is more related to CTR than SERP results)
    * fix the title tags of the pages (most important keywords first)
    * set Hx tags to relevant keywords

As for offsite SEO, if you have good and interesting unique content, then you will get visitors, but of course you can help to boost that by getting good quality backlinks from relevant sites. Just going for dofollow is not the way to do it, that won't appear as natural. Work on the associations of the backlinks.
Don't forget to do deep linking.

So in all. They are equally important, but IMO you need to do things in the right order, at least if you can't do true multitasking.

Put some work into the content. Google is getting better and better in analyzing contexts.

There are of course more factors, but here you have something to start working on.

You need to consider both onpage and offpage SEO because they should work both together to easily put you page rank increase and can easily get index by the search engines..

The tips of niko are very important.. that is what I am doing also..

It's sort of like having a car.

A car has an engine & tires.

You could do without one or the other, but it would be a pain in the @ss pushing 2,500 pounds down the highway without an engine or tires.

Do both on-page & off-page SEO, it just makes the job easier.

In seo, i normally leverage the power of onpage to build less backlinks and rank faster.
A site can dont have onpage but u will be using more backlinks in order to rank.

  • For good and best result you should use both on site and off site SEO. these both are good and necessary to give you quick result.

You should give attention to both things. Either way, if you lose, you will fallback. However, your niche seems sole affiliated therefore going to promote it across social channels holds as much importance as does the onpage.

You have to factor in both on page SEO and off page SEO. Personally, I consider off page SEO to be a bit more important than on page SEO when looking at the top 10 competition in Google. Even if a page doesn't have your keyword in it's URL and Title, but it has a PR of 5 and 200,000 backlinks, don't think that you are going to outrank it. However, if the off page SEO is not too great but not too bad either, if the on page SEO is looking good I will go for the keyword.

One thing I would mention though is that you should only page attention to exact match searches to your keyword. 33 searches is pretty low, even for a micro niche site IMO. Remember that only around 42% of those searches are going to click on your result even if you are number one! Hope this helps and best of luck!

On page optimization refers to factors that have an effect on your website listing in search results that include HTML code, meta tags, title, and keyword optimization.Off page optimization is a technique that used to build backlinks and improve your search engine ranking.

Both on page SEO and off page SEO are important for the success of your website. So you should not emphasize and ignore the other because if you do not take a well balanced approach, you are very likely to lag behind in the competition. On page SEO as the term suggests has to do with optimizing your web page and making it search engine friendly. On page SEO involves adding appropriate page titles for your web pages, adding head tags, optimizing the URLs for the inner page navigation, adding alt attribute, making your web page XHTML compliant, optimizing the loading speed of the page and the like. On page SEO also involves adding fresh content regularly to your website. The content added should also be keyword rich. Search engines love fresh content and they want your webpage content to be keyword rich. Another aspect of on page SEO is inter-linking the pages. Not many people pay attention to inbound linking. You too should not make this mistake but give enough attention to linking your inner pages using proper hypertext.

For On Page SEO you attract readers by providing high-quality content. The technique is to make the articles as relevant as possible to what the searcher is looking for.On the other hand, Off Page SEO relies on other website’s feedback of your site. By adding your link to their website, they can direct their traffic to yours. The search engine sees this as a sort of recommendation and the website’s rank will reflect on yours too.

Off page SEO trumps on page SEO. Unique, quality content is important, don't get me wrong. However, quality backlinks are what make or break a site's rankings. See me Sig. for more information.

      I agree with this.

Off-page is 90% of the SEO game.

However, on-page vs. off-page is a false dichotomy.

On-page is just the entry ticket to the game...links get you to the winner's circle.
