Hello warriors I have a question.

My blog is doing very well in google and my videos rank well in youtube.

My problem is I am virtually unknown in yahoo.

I thought that my good ranking in google would carry over to yahoo as well.

But according to my research I am a nobody on that side of town any suggestions?

I'd be more focused on bing than yahoo if I were you. In any event the thing to remember with either of these guys (bearing in mind the merger between MS and Yahoo) is they are a lot slower than Google at finding new content, and longer still in ranking it.

Often you will find that it's just time that is needed to start ranking.

Basic Seo still applies, they both still focus on the more traditional SEO signals like link text, etc.

    Cheers

      I agree 100% with Tim.

I do rank great for my keywords on Google, but with Yahoo and Bing, not much.

However, I noticed as the time passes, it seems like my seo efforts focused on Google (or at least some of the more traditional ones like Tim was mentioning like anchor text links), are paying off with both Yahoo and Bing as well.

On the hand, I have red on many well known seo sites that Bing and Yahoo ranking rely on almost identical factors, but not sure about it.

I am ranked very well in Google, but it is definitely harder to rank in Yahoo. I'm still checking back from time to time and I often check my usually high ranked keywords on Google to make sure that I haven't angered the Google in some way.

I have one site doing well in yahoo and one that does well in google but I can't find in yahoo. They both have unique content and are regularly updated. I wasn't sure what the organic results requirements are for yahoo.

On my experience, all you need to rank in Yahoo is to own the EMD/keyword. Even if it's a .net or .org, after a few months, you will rank on the first page of yahoo and bing (yahoo now uses bing results so it's the same thing).
So my advice is that if you want to rank on bing/yahoo you should Not promote your site.. don't do any link building at all. I know it's hard to belive but i can prove it... And the niche I am in, is one of the most competitive ones on google.. (software).

it is not true. I have few exact match domains. but none of those sites are in the first page on Bing or yahoo

I learn Google amazing. I have seen web pages that have a few images and three phrases get better positions than web pages that have a lot of articles with a lot of key phrases. Their positions are very mad. They keep trying to modify them too.

Yahoo places a bigger emphasis on on-site optimization.

Mine seem to carry over usually. I mean they aren't the same but generally if I am ranking well in Google I'm doing ok in Yahoo as well.

      1. Build Quality Content first and foremost.
      2. Make your website user and SE friendly, using text links instead of javascript, make it neat and make it with structure.
      3. Yahoo does particularily like rss feeds from sites, so if you can include an rss feed for your site which you can update.
      4. If you like to build links, then build backlinks just as you would normally, in a sensible manner.
      5. Submit some QUALITY articles to article directories.
      6. Keep updating your content.
      7. Repeat steps 1-7

And that will give you the rankings you are looking for.

Yeah. I have better positions both in yahoo and bing. But I never did SEO specifically for bing/yahoo! Frankly, I Don't worry about Yahoo. Concentrate on Google and you'll go up on the rest of search engines.

As said prior,,,,they look at on-page optimization. They also put a little less emphasis on the number of backlinks.

Make sure that you have the keywords you want to rank for on your site! Sometimes people don't even have the keywords on their site. Best to have them in the Title tag, the meta info and on the page at least once.

Keep adding fresh content talking about the subject of those keywords from time to time and building quality backlinks to them and overtime you will find your place and hopefully good rankings.

Just keep at it. It doesn't happen overnight but it depends on the competition.

    Mike.

The general rule of thumb still applies when it comes to ranking on Yahoo. Google seems to be apt and react quick to SEO than any search machine out there.

However, from my experience, ranking high on Yahoo and others is all about links, get lots and lots of it and don't discriminate too.
