I have been trying to rank for a particular longtail keyword and i have hit quite the dead-end... At least i think so. Here is exactly what i have done over the past one month or so.
1) I started by writing out about 50 articles and posted them on hubpages. I drip fed them at a rate of about 3 articles a day. I actually got to the fourth position of my keyword.
2) I later opened a wordpress blog over at wordpress.com. I posted five articles each day. This did not make any change at first. Then later on my rankings fell to about the 7th position.
3) After this i opened a blogger blog and started posting the same unchanged articles at a rate of about 10 articles a day.
End result:
I am at number 18 for my keyword!
Have i done something wrong? I know it could be the google dance or have i pissed big G off. Please help!
Felix

Build My Rank (BMR) is also a good tool to use to push keywords from Page 2 to page 1 but costs $60/month for 5 domains and you also need to write unique articles.

You could also try social bookmarking your Wordpress blog to give the links a bit more juice.

      Good Luck

Google is coming down hard on links from duplicate content. Since Hub Pages, WordPress and Blogger sites are constantly being crawled, you may have been nicked for what is effectively, content spamming. You should also know that having a ton of articles coming from 1 IP address won't do much good over the long haul. It 'seems' Google will only give you credit for 1 link from that IP. This comment may be debated and not always consistent, but it is better to error on the side of caution.

I read a post around here in the warrior forum that had a link to the google TOS that did not bar posting the articles on different sites and the term given was article syndication.... not duplicate content. I forget the actual place that thread was. But if that is true, then i should not be having problems. If so then i should not be having any problems. The fact that i am in this situation makes me think that it was a bad move to make. Could it be a google dance?
    I shall look into bmr.

  • Try to focus on obtaining backlinks that are: dofollow, from high PR domains, and contextual (relevant to your keyword), as these are the best type of backlinks. Here's a trick to find your competitor's backlink sources:
    Go to backlinkwatch.com
    Put in your competitor's site
Check to see where they have their backlinks, and see if you can put yours on the same sites.

As people have already mentioned here, I would definitely recommend using BuildMyRank. You will get some quality backlinks from there which should help increase your rankings. In addition, try some social bookmarking and maybe a little bit of blog commenting.
