Domain Age WTF?

Just bought a domain for some of my niche sites.
Got a design going and installed All in One SEO.
Nothing more.
So I checked my site age and google tells me my domain is 7,5 years old? wtf
Just bought it in January.
Im also on top 4 on yahoo with my sites and didn't backlink at all, just cause of my domain age?
How is this possible?

      Sounds like you bought a formerly registered domain that had backlinks still pointing at it. Nothing to do with domain age.

  • The age of a domain is determined from when it was first registered. It doesn't matter if the domain has expired a number of times in that period.

    In your case, it sounds like you accidentally bought an aged domain with good backlinks. Some people spend a lot of time trying to find those.

    In order to retain the existing link juice, make sure you put some 301 redirects in place for pages that don't exist on your new site, otherwise those links get wasted.

  • sounds like you got a good deal. i've done the same thing before, you go to register a domain and find out it was already registered, the previous owner may have just let the registration lapse and never renew it...
