Above The Fold - Panda Update Myth that I had

Okay - so my sites were flagged a couple weeks ago because of the panda update. I figured it was CTR theme, etc. etc.

But I realized CTR theme works great. Why? Well I was looking around and I saw a niche site at ranked number 1 with 135k local monthly (EXACT) with CTR theme and a lot of ads above the fold.

Therefore, my site clearly had s**** content and I will be the one to finally admit it.

I just want to clarify from what I've seen, that there's nothing wrong with CTR theme nor having a lot of ads above the fold. Just make sure that you have great content.

I wish I could share the site and the keyword but I'm going to respect the owners privacy.

I don't doubt it. Most of the 'common wisdom' being spread these days is myth and disinformation. The people who are succeeding don't want the competition.

Yup. At first I was drawing into what people were saying, Google this Google that, Panda this, Panda that, etc.

Something I learned. Don't point fingers and just do you.

I learned from my mistakes and I'm willing to fix them. Learning every day! =D.

Yeah there was a whole bunch of nonsense here about above the
fold. People just failed, as usual, to read the info for themselves,
and read it in context. But then, that does not make for
      a sensational thread.

It's not about ads above the fold. It's not about a bunch of
ads. It's about being able to find the content with no
problem, and, your site having a reason to exist other
than adsense. All that gets lost in the translation.

Since I rely heavily on myself for adsense traffic, I
care only about clicks and what works, always within
      adsense TOS of course.

People also hear about some update, then see that site
at the same time falls, so they put together a cause
and effect which in most cases is just coincidence.

S**t content can also work pretty good though.

shh!... you're going to ruin my Panda Bashing Smashing product launch

While it doesn't hurt to make your site look natural (proper ad placements), it's really hard to tell what affects your rankings without testing multiple variables across several similar sites.
