Links in first sentence - Effect on SEO?

For on-page SEO purposes, I gather you need to bolden your targetted keyword which is in the first sentence.

I was wondering, if you make the bolded keyword a hyperlink does this have a negative effect on the on-page SEO or can a keyword be bolded and also be made a link.

    Is it linked to internal or external link? I use external links to authority sites on the first paragraph, not in the first sentence though but it also gives me good results.

      I don't see a problem with that, but I would not put it right in the first sentence. Hopefully you don't mean an affiliate link, in that case definitely do not do it!

        Any particular reason you shouldn't put an affiliate link there? Is it related to Google's new update about ads above the fold.
