I have been link building slowly for the last 2-3 weeks, I do a lot of forum sigs (in industry specific forums with do follow links) I have written articles, I have commented on appropriate blogs, I have entered in WAY more directories than I can count.

None of my links show up in google webmaster tools or on alexa. it shows me as having links from one domain. I was just wondering if this was normal or if I have done something wrong?

My site is a local service site that ranks well already (first page for its keyword searches locally) but I just wonder if something is wrong.

Webmaster tools is a bit behind, it doesn't show all the links immediately.

Check your backlinks in google if they are indexed. If indexed, they may show up in Webmaster tools in course of time. Same with alexa.

As you are already ranking well, I think you have nothing to worry at all.

LOL i know your right, but it is so hard to make myself believe it. Although I am usually ranking 5-6 organically in my search terms. I need to be 1-2 but I am sure that will come with time.

So, they sometimes take awhile? I am just shocked when I get a good pr1 link in my industry (soo hard to come across) and I promote it and all that, and I still never see it in webmaster tools. I check and they do index btw, so they may show up eventually.

There is another blog/forum in my industry that follows and has pr0 and up but it NEVER indexes. You can do whatever you want to promote it but it will not index? is this very common?

      • Google Webmasters do not show all the back links, try some other third party tool for checking backlinks like Yahoo site explorer or backlinkwatch dot com.

It's still early days. It take take many weeks even months for links to show up and even then some of them wont do, or some of them won't get indexed by Google.

My advice is to try and focus on high PR backlinks. Those always get indexed for me.

I just have a really hard time finding anything more than PR1 that is contextual to my site. I am doing a TON of forum signatures, not spamming them i really do participate, and some do follow industry blog comments with appropriate anchor text.

I have found a few random pr4-6 blogs with do follow comments, but they have had nothing to do with my industry so I have just left one link and tried not to go back.

try searching site:yoursite.com in google and see whether it is indexed. Also is there any reason why you don't use your signature here in this forum ? Also you can try bulkping.com . These should help

I used to use my sig here but someone told me it was a bad move since it was unrelated to my site category? I would be happy to put it back on, I post here frequently lately so it should provide some links.

Every other page of my site indexed except one, can't quite figure it out, no crawl errors, and its on the site map. No .robotxt stopping it. I just keep linking to it and figure it will come up eventually

Type this in Google and search:
    Code:
    link:yourwebsite.com -site:yourwebsite.com
You should be able to see the backlinks to your site which have been indexed. I guess this is what you are looking for?

And yes, if you want you can use bulkping or any other pinging tool to ping all your backlinks.

I did this on my site and found lots of links. When I went to one of the pages, however, I didn't see any links to my site. Even when I went to the source of the page there is no link back to my site. How can I find where the link is?

I ask because the page which I saw in the results when doing that search you suggested was from webmd.com which would be a GREAT backlink for me to have I'm sure!

looks like your tip worked, the page that wouldn't index is now in the site:mydomain.com I bet it will start showing up in results in the next day.

I will definitely try pinging my links from now on. I had heard it was not the method of choice now, but I am getting nowhere doing the social bookmark thing. i think that maybe I just don't have a big enough network built up on stumble and digg and all that.

do you think I should put my sig back on this forum?

Maybe you could try posting content more frequently in your blog and leverage social media like twitter, facebook or google+ ? In this way you can also interact with your visitors and build relationship?

Putting link in your signature here is up to you. If you are into other niches then you may try signing up for those niche based forums, make useful posts, put link in your sig etc.

I am curious about that as well, lnk:mydomain shows some of the directories I entered in like yellow pages etc, but no mention of blog comments articles or forums.
