Buying old domain

I have found that buying old domains is a crap shoot. A lot of the buying depends on how you purchased the domain itself. For example I have purchased domains from godaddy and was pleasantly surprised that the purchased domain already had hundreds of back links and an alexa ranking. this has happened more than once. but! sometimes you can purchase a domain that appears to have been dropped like a bad habit and nothing you can do can revive it. you never know.

when bidding at auctions for domains you can feel a little safer with your investment because you can do a due diligence. and i highly recommend doing so. i have sold domains that had huge amounts of links (some high pr) but the domain itself had been "de indexed" meaning you could type in your website with out the "http://" and it would not show in google. I must have pissed them off some how on that site.

on losing page rank, again that is touchy. i know there are ways to do 30bla bla something redirect and so forth. but think of this (this is my experience) why does the site you are interested in have a high pr? if it is the content and the links coming to each page of content then you need the content associated to that site as well.

any way just evaluate the domain the best you can. what is the worst that happens if the site does not work out?

No, the PR doesn't reset, but it may change depending on how you implement the new site. There are things, however, that you can do to preserve the PR. This is a fact any one with a HighPR network knows well ;P

I sold a domain several years ago, PR6 and since then it's dropped to PR2.

Guess if the new owner doesn't keep up the traffic or content it can and will drop.

it this also apply for dropped domains ?

PR is solely based on links.

If you are buying an old domain it makes sense if you create same theme website, otherwise in next pr updation pr of your website will become 0. Try to update your website with unique and genuine articles. Create quality backlink for your website
