Squeeze Pages and PPC?

Hi all! I want to set up a website whose primary reason is to collect email addresses. However, one of my main forms of advertising is PPC and they (especially Adwords) don't look too kindly on sites that have little meaningful content.

So I was just wondering what are some ideas/tips for setting up a website for collecting email addresses that is PPC friendly? I was thinking of setting it up to look like a content website with a few quality articles?

Thanks for your help.

If you're NOT an affiliate, you can do squeeze pages without issue.

I've done them and seen them from real companies before.

Not easy to imagine how that can be enforced, is it?

How does anyone know, from a squeeze page, whether or not you're an affiliate?

In short, they basically want the user to end their search on the website who's link is being advertised.

Meaning when you have a squeeze page on your domain and then send them off to the offer's site on a different domain, you're providing a bad user experience and will be punished with the G slap.

Don't know where you get that from but that's not true. If you collect emails, you cannot have a page whose sole purpose is to collect emails. That's a pure squeeze page. You need content. You also need to specify the reason you are collecting their email and what you're going to do with it, a policy. Doesn't matter if you're an affiliate or not.

AdWords doesn't mind you promoting a squeezepage for your own products/services?

Oh, I didn't know that! Their editorial guidelines say that the website must have useful content on it. I've run into trouble with Adwords before and don't want to stuff up again...

well... it certainly helps with your quality score if you have more than a squeeze page on the website which can save you a couple bucks on clicks, but as coach said as long as you own the product you're promoting, its allowed.

put the squeeze page on domainname.com and then put your quality content on samedomainname.com/blog (or wahtever).

That way the squeeze page is just that and the quality content in on other pages.

Don't even have any navigation on the squeeze page.

I have done this on several occasions and one for a friend who used PPC and still does for years now without ever an issue.

Can you do this for a sales page? I want to direct link my own product from Adwords and I was thinking of putting like 5 pages of content in the footer. Will this protect me from getting banned?

so if my squeeze page doesnt have a navigation bar and no real content but its still part of a normal blog/site with content, then it will be allowed to be promoted on google adwords?

Yes Alexa, I would like to know that too!

Okay, well some of the websites are for my own products whilst others will be as an affiliate or a mixture of both.

I recommend not using adsense. Facebook ads is 1/10 of the prices and with buysellads.com you buy ads or buy them directly from some website owners (especially small ones who will be excited and offer you a cheap price!)

Thanks sureshots, I will try this out.

I've actually found Adwords and Microsoft Adcenter really good for me... I spend about $13 to make $24-$39 profit and scale up... it just works for me. Giving other PPC websites a go as well.

I've been playing around with Facebook ads recently and found out how to get cheap ads so I'll certainly set something up there to build my lists.

You are the second person today to reccomend buysellads.com to me so I will check it out and give it a go for sure, thank you!

G permanently suspended my Adwords account because of running ads to a squeeze page. And get this...

The "squeeze page" had a full navigation on it - with 6 or 7 main navigation tabs and 3-5 supporting pages in each drop down. It had a 300x300 sign up form on it. Had about 400 words of content. Had 5 links to external sites - non aff - in the sidebar. No affiliate links - just a sign up form.

    They STILL banned me.

    So... I'd tread lightly.

On the other hand, my company is managing a PPC campaign for a national brand (you would all recognize). We're driving traffic to... wait for it.... squeeze pages.

    Who the heck knows.

One thing I DO know... Adwords accounts that spend over say $50K per month make up the vast majority of G revenue on Adwords and represent a very small segment of Adwords customers. (I forget where i read this...I'll look for the infographic an post it.)

So, do the math: A small handful of customers who bring in 90% of the revenue, or a huge base of customers who represent a tiny percentage of revenue....

Thanks Bredfan for your experience, I just got a warning today from Adwords about one of my websites (not a squeeze page). It has no misleading claims and is quite honest and open... yet Adwords still doesn't like it. Hence why I want to be careful! I'm tempted to play it safe now and have a separate type of website for Adword ads... :\

Spend $200 (put a little investment) and hire someone too write you about 20 300 word articles. Then release them 2 to start and 1 every 2 weeks after that and you would of made enough money from your list (if you market properly) to pay to get a few more articles.

Microsoft Adcenter doesn't frown on squeeze pages. You should check them out. They've merged with Yahoo's PPC program to become one BIGGER PPC program. You can get great (good) traffic for a low price - even in competitive niches.

Yes they do, pretty much to the same extent as Google. Read their Privacy Guidelines.

Have you consider doing Banner advertising? You might get a better ROI and you can use whatever format suits your needs.

Yes, it's a little bit harder in the beginning to get the ball rolling (i.e finding the sites where to place your banner, usually those ranked on the first 5 spots for your niche related keywords), but the benefits can be tremendous.

I use squeeze pages with PPC. google is tougher. They suspend from time to time. Often for no reason. With squeeze pages make sure you have some content, don't redirect to other sites after optin, & have a privacy policy. Even with everything you can get banned.

I just got banned with one website. I have a squeeze page promoting our website hosting service.

    I got this from them:

    WHY WAS YOUR AD DISAPPROVED?

Your site (http://squeezepageexample.com/) that you're promoting through ad was
found to be in violation of the Landing page and Site policy guidelines. In response
to multiple complaints received from users and publishers about this category of
sites, it's Google's policy to not accept ads which promote online "get rich quick"
strategies. I'm really sorry about the inconvenience caused.

Read more about this specific policy at:
    http://adwords.google.com/support/aw/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=190440

They didn't even review my site. I wrote back. Still waiting for a reply from Google but I do think they will lift the suspension.

It really depends how you set it up.

Adwords for the most part frowns on squeeze pages with affiliate links. If the page doesn't have affiliate links though I think you could probably fly under the radar.

You will most likely face landing page issues though with Adwords that could get your account suspended so be careful.

I haven't had any issues with this. But definitely don't make it look like a site.

A squeeze page should have nothing else on it but a way to sign up.

If you are concerned, make the squeeze page domainname.com and add a blog at domainname.com/blog and put the content on the blog.

Google seems to randomly suspend some squeeze pages. I have many squeeze pages (and several accounts) with no problems with Adwords. But a a couple of squeeze pages they have suspended because of "landing page policies".

They really don't like to explain the landing page policy issues. For one of my pages (for WebHosting) they suspended because they don't allow "Get Rich Schemes". I don't even think they went to my page because the page had nothing about making money. I emailed them and got it lifted after about 1 week.
