Authority site backlink strategy

Hi everyone,

My site is a review/authority type site with post excerpts structure on the home page. The domain name is a "brandable" name, it contains a main niche keyword, way too difficult to go for, lets say something like: www.car-news.com (just an example). Thus I am not trying to rank for the domain keyword, it was never the plan.

Amongst another informational-type articles, I have several product review articles:

- www.mysite.com/product1-review KW: product1 review
- www.mysite.com/product2-review KW: product2 review
- www.mysite.com/product3-review KW: product3 review
- www.mysite.com/product4-review KW: product4 review

etc.

I am with BMR and currently submitting articles with "product1 review", "product2 review" etc. anchors pointing directly to the review pages. I am trying to throw in at least 30% random anchors like "click here" for diversity.

Now I am wondering how to backlink the home page? If at all?

Since I decided not to use a static page, the home page contains pretty much every KW I used in last 10 posts.

Would you point backlinks with the "product1 review" keywords to it?
Or would you rather point backlinks with a "general" topic to the homepage, e.g. "car-news"?

Do I need to backlink to home page at all, if I am rather trying to rank the deep pages? What percentage of backlinks would you suggest to spread between home page and deep sites? How important is it to back link the home page? Or would you just keep linking the deep pages and pass the juice to the homepage through proper interlinking?

Thanks for your thoughts!

I have a similar case, but I chose a brandable memorable domain that people won't easily forget - not keyword connected.

In using BMR try not to fall into the trap of over doing posts too quickly. By this i mean going for 5 or even 10 posts per keyword a day trying to uphold rankings. I have found that doing 1 post per keyword per day consistently for at least a month is better. After a few days you'll see how far BMR can take you for that keyword.

Once you have this in place but you're not on page one for your keywords you can then consider using other link strategies for page one whilst doing those 1 post per day BMR links. I personally don't do more than 3-4 keywords with BMR at a time, because i like to do a ton of split tests, but you should find your own link strategy rhythm soon enough.

Hey, thanks for your answer. Yepp, I am drip-feeding the BRM posts at 1-3/day maximum since I believe more could harm a relatively fresh site. Do you backlink the home page at all or just the deep pages?

I personally prefer to backlink the homepages on my sites that are set up similarly to yours. I use a variety of keywords, including the main keywords I'm targeting, some random anchor texts (click here, visit us, check out this blog, domainname.com, etc) and some long tail keywords. You would want to focus most of your efforts on your main pages, rather than the homepage, but it doesn't hurt to help give your homepage some authority.

It also looks more natural than a homepage having very little or no links.

You should backlink homepage to look more natural. You can use 2 links in BMR posts one to home and one to an inner page. Just don't do all posts like this.
