Me v Signature Spammer

Hi Guys,

I have a potential new customer who is currently paying another company £1000 /$1500 per month to make them appear at Google summit for 52 key phrases.

I looked at the site - absolutely no SEO - so I did a deep link search and found loads of spammy signature links: Hi I am Pedro Dynamite , you will like this... etc. etc.

I do pure organic SEO SMM and want to SEO his site and build up a SM campaign, but he doesn't want to move away from Mr 'Press one button a month and charge a fortune' in case he loses his status.

Is there a reliable product that will do this signature dark art until I can build up a legitimate campaign. I can't afford to risk getting his site blacklisted as he would sue the hell out of me.

Any help is much appreciated.
Thanks
Barnaby

Don't accept this project. I he wants to do it the spam-way, let him do it himself. If he wants a real good ranking site, wich has real good reputation, he should hire you.

Yea I agree. Move on to a new client. He will just give you trouble in the long-run.

I would not touch that project with a 40 foot pole. You dont want to pick up a project 2-3 days before his site gets de-indexed because of all the spammy links. Guess who is he going to demand answers from.

Personally I would talk to him, I would bet he does not realize what is happening and the dangers of what the other company is doing.

Point out that it may well be forking now for a short while, but sure as day follows night, Google will be onto it and into the sandbox you will go...

Then offer to sort out the mess for him, with the caveat that what has been done in the past may very well come back to haunt him, but the best policy is to start a good, well structured SEO campaign and hope that no penalties are given for past mistakes.

This is what I mean. It is like buying stocks for someone just before the market is gonna crash, it is stupid and too risky for you.

I'm confused. Why would you want a program to do the very thing you are complaining about?

That's going to be a ton of work if ever you're going to accept that. If you're going to ask me, all odds favor "no." If your client's going to let you work using your own methods, then that's fine.

Wow, that really does NOT sound like the kind of client I'd want to work with...

As I'm sure you know being a whitehat SEO, if he's been blasting forum profiles this whole time then it's not a matter of IF he will be penalized, but WHEN he will be penalized.

If you really believe there is a risk that he would sue you, then DO NOT take the job!

    Seriously!

I would recommend you make one last effort to get him to give you a try: Explain that your methods are about more than just ranking, it's about marketing and lead generation. Explain that you can get him interested and passionate customers through social media (the future of marketing), and targeted traffic through guest posting and white hat SEO. Also explain why spammy forum profiles are SUCH a bad idea and the complete lack of value they provide.

Then, if he still doesn't hire you just report the site to Google, or Fiverr a few Xrumer blasts his way to push him over the edge into a penalty. That'll have him running back to you

To answer your original question, though: I believe Sick Submitter can do forum profiles, so you might take a look at that.

    Thanks everyone.

I emailed him today and explained that I had sat down with my business partner and we have decided we want nothing to do with this spammy signature stuff. We have been practicing organic white hat techniques for over 10 years now and do not want to start down this spammy route.

In hindsight, I wish I had not mentioned trying to compete with a spammer. Sooner or later he is going to fall of an SEO cliff and I don't want to be in the firing line.

Thanks for taking the time to post.

Just to offer an alternate suggestion: If it were me I would open an LLC just for the purpose of working with him. Follow all the requirements of an LLC and he won't be able to sue you.

It's a fair amount of money you're talking about here, so you can afford a lawyer to set one up for you, and you can afford to put together a professional "profile recovery plan."

I would take the guy's money, do what you normally do, and a week or two later throw in a fiverr gig or two just so that his backlink profile doesn't change too quickly.

    1) Tell him you are going to place him at the number one spot in Google.
    2) Once you have the check cashed stop answering phone calls and emails.
    3) Spend money, be happy. =D

Or like everyone else said, just don't take the job.

      Update:
I said to him that we weren't interested in trying to do a copy of his current SEO guys' spammy techniques, but we would be here when his results fall off a cliff.
The following week - KABLAAAMMM!!!!!!!!! - his results went down the toilet quicker than you could say Google Panda. I managed not to say 'I told you so', and now we are working on his site every month to try and repair all the damage.
He was getting hits from people typing in '{insert famous person's name] naked' and all sorts of other junk. No wonder his bounce rate was nearly 100%.
We are now doing things organically but are still not seeing amazing results for the site as it has soo much competition. We write content and link to the content from high PR sites, but the competition all seem to have budgets of 10K plus a month. So much for Panda and Penguin making organic SEO the way forward. Money talks...

Shouldn't this "potential customer" be the one posting?
      Why mess with success?

Seriously. What else can you offer him?

If his money is well spent now, he can let it ride.

He should wait until the ship sinks, if ever. The ship
may never sink. If you take this over, you are mucking
      things up.

It's a lose-lose for the both of you.
