Multi language site: SEO doubts

I'm building a site in my own language for a client (my first real one, apart from friends and relatives!). He also wants the english version of this site and wants it in a subfolder (myclientdomain.com/en/) . He also wants a mobile version.

Although the niche is a competitive one, being a local business I think I have no particular problems in reaching a good position on google search.
Nevertheless I feel unconfortable for the english version's SEO.

How will Google treat a complete site in a different language located in a subfolder? Is it something which might penalise the main site?

And what about the mobile site? I planned to put it in a subfolder (myclientdomain.com/mobi/) but I feel puzzled because I should make the english version of it too. What if i make a 2-language mobile site? will Google get upset?
Sorry for the newbie questions, but I really feel confused..

    • As your domain is .com so i think google will treat your website in good manner if you optimize your website. English version SEO is very similar to local version and i think with .com domain you can have good position on google.... Cheers..

  • I was very happy to see this as I'm in the same spot where i need to promote a site in many languages, each language is in a different page like yours.
My questions is, do i create a for each language page a separate meta title?
Is there anything to promoting a multilingual site that is especially important to know? or Is it simply building links in different languages that point each to it's owns language page?

    • Yes, You should create meta tags for different language pages. Because I think when user select language option and go on that page, that page is different and url may be different.
  • You can target two different audience, but you need to follow all webmaster guidelines, Webmaster Guidelines - Webmaster Tools Help.
You need to create different meta tags for different language pages.

    • Thank you. I should treat them as 2 different sites then, shouldn't I?
