Too many clicks on google ads

Hi

Can a visitor to your site get your google adsense account closed by clicking on too many ads?

I've just noticed a visitor to my site click on about nine or ten ads. God knows why he/she would need to click all them. Don't want to get my account closed because of something beyond my control.

Yes, they can. This is called a clickbomb. Search the forum for "clickbomb" and you will see many horror stories.

My advise is to remove the ads from the site in question, at least for a few days.

There is conflicting opinion on whether or not to report the suspicious activity to Google. Some say you should, while other's say that in making a report, you are essentially waving a red flag over your head saying "I might be a risk".

It would've been great if there were a way within Adsense to block ads from being displayed to particular IP's.

To the OP, if the user keeps on abusing it then I guess you should block their IP completely from your website.

There is? write some php code and not show the javascript adsense code if it detects certain IP's, say for instance Tor exit nodes, or public proxies, whatever you want. I did this for the rating system on my site that uses javascript.

Yeap, as mentioned above this is known as clickbombing.

BUT hopefully Big G can catch on to them if you ARE NOT the one at fault. They should be able to see the clicks coming from the SAME IP address and hopefully do not penalize you for this.

If anything, I suggest you write them and let them know exactly what is going on.

I think G just doesn't count it. Sometimes, you may get nine clicks but you get no money. Therefore, you know that G knows that something is going on but shouldn't shut your account down.

I had a adsense website while back that had a same problem but google just ignored the clicks. But it's better to report to Google just to be on the safe side.

hey freemeal, was the traffic purchased? I see bad traffic sometimes on my network from people who bought traffic from a site that says they are adsense safe. They are not safe for adsense or any other reputable ppc ad network.

No it was just organic search engine traffic. It's not even a IM related niche so I'm not sure it was malicious.

You need to report it as suspicious activity (https://support.google.com/adsense/b...s_contact&rd=1) and take your site out of the Allowed Sites box for a couple of weeks. Google wants to see that you will do everything possible to protect the Adwords advertisers. (What can I do to help prevent invalid activity? - AdSense Help)

Clickbombing, by one person, will not in and
of itself get you banned. People just don't
realize that each and every site, with many
          visitors, gets clickbombed. It happens.

Google cares more about clickfraud than anything else.
          Clickbombing is not clickfraud.

The conclusion to the question is illogical when talking
about being banned. That would mean every adsense
person could be banned by the whim of some idiot.

          Not gonna happen.

Google has internal ways of dealing with clickbombing.

If you mean that your site gets clickbombed, several times
a day, for a month, sure. But then we have moved from
being "clickbombed" to being an idiot with your website.
Clickbombing would be the least of why you got bombed.

I wouldn't report it to Adsense. I read a post by someone who reported the clickbombing and then Adsense banned him! So much for being honest...If it were me, I'd just remove the ads for a few days and then closely monitor them when you put them back up.

Don't tell anything to Adsense, doing so will put you in the "black" box and they will start Investigating your account (thus will only HELP you get banned faster!)

I think it's obvious from the various posts here that there is no real consensus on what is the best thing to do when getting clickbombed.

Advice is all over the place, such as Report it, No, don't report it, Google doesn't count it, block the IP, and so forth. This can be confusing and misleading for those looking for real answers.

I'm not sure if I've ever been "clickbombed" in more than 6 years of Adsense publishing, and I have 35+ sites, but I know it can occur.

My suggestion is to install something like Adsense Clicklock on your site. There may be others, but Adsense Clicklock is the one I know about. Unfortunately, I don't think it works on blogs, but I could be wrong.

If you're interested, Adsense Clicklock is a PHP script that is uploaded to your site, and only cost $27. It works by monitoring how many times the same visitor clicks your ads, then hides your AdSense ads after the limit is reached.

It can also hide your AdSense ads after a certain number of page views.

In addition, it can track the IP address of every site visitor so you can block potential attackers on your site.

I'm not an affiliate nor have anything to do with the company, I'm just trying to help out. So just do a search for "Adsense Clicklock" or type in Adsenseclicklock (dot) com, and you can check it out for yourself.

    Hope this helps.

For a newbie that might not be a bad investment, I suppose.
But one could add a simple one or two line php code that
just hides the adsense on a quick repeat visitor.

Problem will all these things is that they are not fool proof.
One could delete their cookies, surf anonymously, etc.
Even view a cached version of the page each time.

And many times a repeat visitor has a legit reason to click
more ads than one. If you check your stats a lot, then
you may notice at times you get a handful of clicks in
a short time. Probably the same person.

I have never worried about clickbombing and would never
block anything. But that's just me.

People who worry about clickbombing probably have more
reasons to be worried. Bad things are all related.

    Why worry about clickbombing?
Adsense seems to know which IP addresses are linked to your site and which are not.
Any IP that is closely related to another IP that you used to log into your Google account will not even receive 1 cent if you click your adsense ad from that IP. The click will count, though.
A random person who clicks 10 times at once will gain you credit for 10 clicks, but you will be paid for 1.

Unless it's very suspicious behavior that could be linked to click-fraud , there's no need to worry.
Adsense is a lot more intelligent than that.
