Help getting from #7 to#1

Hay there,
Okay so currently my site is ranked 7th for my main keyword. I've done no offsite seo yet but my content is pretty good (most of my other keywords are at #1 and thats where most of my traffic comes from even though they aren't nearly as searched for)

I thought if i put in a little bit SEO effort i could make that last little leap to #1 and see some good traffic from that keyword but I really don;t know what i'm doing.

I'm quite knowledgeable on my niche so i can write articles but i can;t think of anywhere to submit them, when people talk about writing article do they have a place in mind where they'll post them?

I also started answering Yahoo answers questions on my subject, I get loads of top comments and i can put my link in the source box but will that help. I've heard that if you put your link in to many times you get penalized. I think i already have been because i'm lvl 2 now and my links still aren't clickable

okay so that about wraps it up, any suggestions welcomed as well as links to any good forum post ( i looked first i promise but all i found was make a million $ in 2 days with this amazing seo thingy...colour me skeptical)

  • Here's a post you can check out for a start:

If you've hit 7th already then that's great, and I'd avoid spending any money - you may be able to hit 1st position using your own time and effort.

Yahoo Answers have NoFollow links even when they are clickable. This won't (in my opinion - this point is debated) push you up the rankings. It will give you good link diversity, which is always a positive thing. It will also help to send you relevant and direct traffic, sometimes for years to come if you hit "Best Answer" on a few well visited Answers.

    Regards
    Will
  • William blah is right. Try to get some link diversity along with some High quality links.
  • Hay thanks, guys for quick feedback, i read that post and it got some ideas, I'll start tomorrow and maybe post back here what i did and what results i saw in a while.
  • I read the page - I do a lot of YT backlinking along w/ forum backlinks - it seems to work for me anyway. I do sprinkle some PRLog and Hubpages BLs in as well.
  • The secret is to not get greedy now. Do some slow link building and try and get some retweets on Twitter or some FB likes. StumbleUpon is also a good option. Just DON'T create MASS backlinks now. Patience will win in the end, just take it slow (but not toooo slow of course)
  • how much is too much, I'm spending most of my time on new content so i won't be able to go to mad, but when should i stop because i've got some articles written and i want to spin and submit them to goarticles and the like tomorrow.

arpitagarwal82 i tried to pm you back but i'm not allowed. thanks for the offer its really nice of you but i don;t know how wise it is to tell a forum full of im'ers about my idea

    • A few articles on goarticles won't hurt. What I mean is to avoid automated software blasts now, like going crazy with Senuke X or something similar. Social Bookmarking is a good idea at this stage, also think about getting a Fiverr gig for 1000 Facebook Likes or 1000 Twitter followers, then post some decent links that you know will get shared (maybe with a funny picture or phrase, those work pretty well). It's all about social media these days man, article marketing is slowly becoming a thing of the past.
  • Just try to spend more hours building QUALITY Do-Follow backlinks with your anchor text
  • Besides the good news is 80% of results comes from off site seo. So once you start building links, then you should most definitely see an improvement. Slow and steady. If you try and blast your site with links, you may have a problem.

      That's funny.

      Not true, but still funny.

  • I'm gonna stick to articles for now because i feel i understand the process better and i could provide pretty good content.

Yukon whats funny (not being sarcastic, actually want to know)
I thought what theseoguys said was pretty accurate?

Anyway i'll let you know how i get on
  • Okay i have my first article, its 450 words is that alright? I could make it longer if i needed too, the content is alright but i wouldn't post it on my site, i'd have to expand a few points first but is it alright for article marketing

Does anyone know any good free spinning software?
  • Okay so I spun 3 articles although one kept coming out really bad so i ditched it and i'll try again tomorrow, I used spinchimp, free tool that seems to work alright. Both were spun to 65% uniqueness, I'm not sure if thats enough but it seems a lot, I defiantly spent longer spinning them than writing them

Added both articles to EzineArticles,GoArticles, Amazines, ArticleBlast, ArticleAlley
Next step apparently is create a load of blogs and add my articles there, I'll probably write another and fix the one that failed spinning so the blogs all have 4 posts each.

    Sound okay so far?
  • Any directory that has even basic moderation, like ezinearticles, will never accept an auto-spun article. It just comes out like gibberish.

All depends on how well you spin it, if you spin with 1 button click, yes then it won't get accepted, however when you rewrite each sentence 7-10 times and spin manually on word level it will even get accepted by sites like BMR and LinkVana, as well as Ezine and the other hotshot article directories.

  • Its not auto spun, i basically wrote two versions of every paragraph and set it so it would chose between them each time, i was gonna go back and do sentences and words as well but it was already over 60% so i thought i'd leave it.

I thought ezine would be the hardest to get into so i just used the original which looks like a hand written article, because it is

(I have emails confirming acceptance for all except ezine who take a week and blast who i'm waiting on an email from before i can submit)

I would suggest signing up to more usenet groups and make sure they are the appropriate ones. It's best to only write up your site once but if you have the time and can make connections word of mouth will help.
  • I just keep doing what I've been doing, but just more of it. The guys at the top have just got more or better backlinks than you do. So just keep building those, and also ensure your ON-Page SEO is spot-on.
  • If you are ranking well without doing much off-site SEO than it should not be hard to gain several positions in SERPS by getting some good quality links.
  • Yeah that what i thought but it is a very low competition keyword and the guys in the top 3 are all like the wikipedia of my niche, really trust worthy sites that have pages about hundreds of topics including the one i'm going for, my content is a lot better imo so hopefully that will help

In other news i noticed i had the ability to delay my article publication so i've set it to publish 1 article a day for the next 4 days. Hopefully all the other blogging platforms will have this.
  • I've done wordpress, blogger, tumblr and live journal now. How many should i do, they are all scheduled to start at different times but i don't want to get to many backlinks on one day, i got 5 yesterday and have 4 already today and will get another 4 everyday for the next 3 days, should i keep making blogs?

I have another 17 sites that this guide recommended i use but that's 21 backlinks a day, to many?

Would it go unnoticed as long as i switch up my anchor text?
  • I did not see if you were using Hubpages. However I saw someone say to use it. Hubpages not only offers a source of traffic but the pages you create can easily gain pagerank and have plenty of SEO benefit which you can pass to your page through dofollow links once your account reaches 80+ I believe. May want to post 1 or 2 articles there however they must be original posts, not posted anywhere else.
  • Hey thanks for the tip that sounds great...how unique does the content have to be. Is an article manually spun (perfectly readable, with multiple paragraph options) to 65% good enough or do i have write a whole new article?
