I recently wrote the following article on how I calculate the value of a #1 ranking on Google.

Original Article

I was wondering if anyone else has any other methods of calculation that they'd be willing to share. My method is pretty straight forward and shows the potential business to come from rankings. Let me know what you think about my posting and if you have any ways to improve it as well. Thanks all!

It's an interesting article, but you are missing one key component -- how much a particular keyword will earn on average. For example, ring tones are very popular, but because they provide so little in terms of actual revenue after you pay royalty fees, even if you get lots of click throughs and sales, it's worth less than some other keywords which get decent sales for high value products,

I don't think that factoring in the costs of doing business (royalties in the case of ring tones) should be a factor in the actual revenue that could be raised from a keyword. Royalty fees can be calculated just like any other cost of goods for a physical product. Regardless however, if it costs me $3 to make a shirt that I sell for $6 I still collect that $6.

I rarely click on the number one site for a google search. I've been burned too many times by fake sites or virus sites. I think #2 or #3 would get more action.

@newseller - what are you searching for? I've almost never had that problem. Also, did you see the new Panda 3.3 update? Hopefully this will take care of any existing issues.
