Hi again warriors,

5 years ago, I posted a few how to videos on youtube. about 6 months to 1 year after the posts, they all took off! One particularly took off and got me a ton of traffic.

Now I'm back in the game and my videos just dont seem to take off like they used to.

Ive been:

-using google keyword tool to name the videos by in demand keywords
-adding my url in the description along with description and keywords
-making appropriate tags (i've been typing in what comes up in the youtube search bar and listing my tags in the order of what comes up)

is there anything i'm missing?

my videos are way better now, ie. better camera, better editing, better videos...

how does youtube and google rank their videos? Is it by initial likes, subscribers, views, how long its been post, frequency of authors posts, etc?

thanks guys!

Video SEO is also impacted by social metrics such as views, ratings, comments and social influencers(tweets, FB posts, +1s etc).

Focus on building high quality videos and getting them to communities that care about them. Posting them on forums that would find them interesting is a good way to get the ball rolling.

Last I checked the Youtube keyword tool was abandoned. The page still exist but it doesn't do anything.

      hxxps://ads.youtube.com/keyword_tool
      (replace xx in the URL)

You don't need anything besides the basics (title, description, tags) on Youtube videos. The video response & the right sidebar (related videos) is all the traffic you could possibly want.

Put catchy phrases on the titles.

You can also put them as long tailed KWs and backlink them - moving them up in the SERPs. Also put them on Digg, Twitter, FB, Redditt to get your referral traffic. You don't need just Youtube traffic to find your videos.

Also - you could backlink your videos as well.

I think it's mostly luck, and posting a lot of videos. You can get views, subscribers, back links, votes up, but it is often down to whether people are searching for that title or topic on You Tube a lot, and whether they like it. I can get you views or make basic videos if you want.

It's simpler than that, guys. Of course, relevant descriptions and catchy titles are basic. But hear the truth, and be amazed by it's simplicity: People click on interesting thumbnails.

    Fact.

    -Add a video sitemap
-Optimize your video for duration, text titles and filenames.
-Share your videos on social networking sites like facebook to invite traffic
-Comment on other related videos frequently
-Include a link of your video while guest blogging

Along with these tips, I would like advise you one more thing... Its better to use Youtube keyword tool for video optimization rather than Adwords keyword tool.

Wow, just got back from 2 days of work and these are all great answers.

      What about video responses?
Mass-Messaging youtube friends and subscribers when new vids come out?

      and..

This is a bit black hat but ive had numerous people tell me that it makes a difference to have multiple accounts that are you like and comment on your own videos and they go right up the rank. But it has to happen right after the vid is uploaded. Any thoughts?

      Thanks again warriors!

        Hi,

Once the user has posted a video in youtube they should do the following this.

        1. Use a ping service like pingomatic to ping the url of the video
        2. Also add the url in social bookmarking website (this helps google to index the url more firmly)
        3. If possible back linking the url (with keyword in the anchor text) of the video page from article directories will be really helpful.

doing the above 3 tasks will help to boost in SERPs very quickly as youtube itself is a authority website.
