Google Sitelinks and Wordpress setup

Hi all,

I've been doing a little searching on how to get Google site links (links displayed below a site's meta description in the SERPs) but from everything I have read it is automatic. Has anyone come up with anything that helps? One thing I have read consistently is it involves alot of site organization.

1 - Are there any Wordpress themes that are better than the others at this?
2 - My current theme displays pages as clickable tabs at the top of the page. So I have Home, Contact, and About. Should I look into a theme that has more navigational components?

    AFAIK, Google looks for a consistent navigation scheme and short metatag description data.
  • Domain authority seems to be the driving force behind sitelinks that show up in the SERPs. Your chances of getting sitelinks on a brand new site are next to hopeless, but large, old, established sites don't need to do anything to get them.

    So instead of focusing on getting sitelinks, focus on making your site look like a large authority site. That means getting high quality links, and making sure your navigation is easy to use and consistent(as noted above).
  • From my experience it's very easy to get. But they don't offer much value in terms of getting extra visitors. Still it's nice to have. (If you're looking to improve your serps CTR, having your authorship setup will give better results).

    Just get external links to the internal pages and wait about 6 months to a year.

    BTW, I wouldn't call these Site Links. More like mini-site links. Real Site links are much bigger and more prominent. And they are somewhat controllable via Webmaster Tools.

    You don't need an authority site to have Google Sitelinks, I'm looking at a keyword in my niche & the guy has 10 pages for the entire site when I do a site:www.domain.com search.

    This guy has a single paragraph per page. Trust me, this guys site isn't an authority on anything, lol.

    What you need for sitelinks is the same keyword anchor-text on most of the sites pages. I think at least a parcel keyword in the URL helps.

    I have plenty of Google Sitelinks on my own sites, never really tried to get them they just happened. The anchor-text & keyword in the URL is the only things I see in common on all the Sitelinks.

    • Thanks all! I have a domain that is a couple of years ago, ranking quite well for some terms but is always behind a couple of big players with site links. I am thinking if I could just be trusted in the eyes of google I would be able to over take these guys.

      I am sure my internal linking could be better, but I don't consider it too bad. I have posts arranged in a group of categories. I also use a related posts plugin and a consistent sidebar where all of my links are shown.

      Should I ditch the sidebar and related posts plugin, and link manually to the groups of pages that belong together?

      Interesting, so are you saying the same anchor text is used on all of your subpages as well?
