Back links are currently being built to my site, however, I want to change my home page title, will this decrease my keyword ranking in google? Also, will it affect my page rank?

I also want to change one key phrase to another phrase on the same home page. I know that this will affect but I do not need this key phrase. Any advise?

If you're ranking for the keyword currently in your title, then yes. Otherwise I wouldn't worry about it

Edit: Regarding the keyphrase, I would just change it, it's not a massive deal

Your page title is one of the most important onpage factors with SEO. Changing it can make a good difference to your ranking. Providing you are making changes that are beneficial. Your main keyword phrase always wants to be in your title... and ideally at the beginning. Also, do not dillute the title with too many words. But, you must always remember that your page title needs to be descriptive and attracting for potential surfers when it is displayed in the SERPS.

You don't really want to be changing your title more than once. Optimize it the first time around. Providing it is descriptive and focuses around your pages main keyword then you can't go far wrong.

Then ensure that your onpage factors are in place and that the page has good, relevant content.
