Server Location - Really?

I know that server location is supposed to have an impact on rankings and have seen a video from Matt Cutts trotted out on occasion but does anyone have a real evidence of this?

Has anyone, for example, moved a .co.uk to UK hosting and seen rankings improve as a result? Or perhaps a .com to the USA and noticed a difference?

All thoughts welcome!

Regards to all,

Peter

If your website comes with a German TLD and if you host it into a German Server then there is a possibility google algorithm will give a vote to your site for ranking high in google.de. But after all everything depends on Authority. If google see a website hosted in Australian server which has much better content as well as backlinks comparably your site google will rank high this one before your site.

So don't think much about local server hosting. Its just a piece of pie.

I never heard anything about moving to a new server will have any impact to your site ranking.
Can you provide a link where you saw the video?

    Thanks

Yes, I had a .org site hosted in Australia ranking very well in Google.com.au and terrible in .com. I moved it to a US server and now it's on page 1 for Google US and page 1-2 AU.

If cutts mentioned it its probably worth it, its not like its difficult to change your hosting to a new company or anything, plus it should speed up your site a little which could affect your serps
