I'm use to video marketing and I want to try websites & adsense. My question is, do you have to have a blog-type website that has pages about other topics and updated regularly in order for it to rank well in google (with SEO obviously). Or can you just make a website with one static page with solid content about the keyword and rank it. I suck at writing content and i want to avoid outsourcing it. I can deal with writing one good page about a keyword but I suck at making new content for it. Basically I want to make a website (keyword in domain) with one well written page about the keyword and put adsense on it and then try to get it to #1 for the keyword. Hopefully this makes sense, Thanks for the responses

Pure HTML pages ranks very well but takes time. The best option is to develop a new CMS. Google loves custom coded scripts.

Yeah defiantly! Static web page will rank well in Google but you should have sufficient content on that web site.

Always keep static web page updated with new post / article, without doubt it will be rank well at all major search engines. Good Luck!

Static sites rank no better or worse than blogs (and vice versa).

Why would you think there is something special about static sites?
All pages in the end are seen as html(mixed with other) by browsers and search
engines anyway. I do all my sites, hand created, using html and
php. Why would I need a CMS?!?!?!?!?!?!? That's crazy.

In fact, I'd say the opposite is true. Same old wordpress junk
    floating around.

I totally agree Paul; well, all except your last comment.

I love how people think that WordPress and "static" HTML sites are actually different to the eyes of the search engines. Not sure who has been spreading these nasty lies.

A "wordpress" site can be created to look like a static site and vice versa. It is all created with the same language anyways. So even in the eyes of the visitors it can be the same.

Wordpress was created to make it easier to create a website without any knowledge of coding what so ever. Over the years People then created their own themes and such which added more functionality to them.

People just use whichever they deem as easiest for them to work with. Some work with wordpress, some work with HTML and PHP.

Your issue isn't that you're trying to rank a static page. It's that you are trying to rank a "thin" site.

Try to get at the minimum 5-10 high quality pages on your site. Recent Google updates do not play nice with sites with only 1-2 pages.

Oh for a very short time it does work. You probably can get a site like this to the frontpage for a few days but it will drop into oblivion again very fast.

Minimum is 10 pages and then build the content from thereon. Less than that your site will not be stable in serps and will keep getting bumped around.
