Signature backlinks from the WF - My findings.

About 3 weeks ago I placed a keyword rich link within my signature pointing to one of my newest sites. I decided to do this just as a test, as I hadn't performed any offsite optimisation on this site all.

I wanted to see if by having 3,454 posts, if it would make any difference in terms of boosting my site, or at the very least, give me a backlink count.

Interestingly enough, after 3 weeks, my backlink count is still zero.

I find this quite interesting....

I woud have expected to see *some* backlinks from the forum, but strangely, this hasnt been the case.

I should note also that the page this link is pointing to, contains no content (yet)

Anyone else experience this also, or are your WF links showing up?

Are WF signature links a waste of time?

    Hey John,

Did a similar test last year and results were "somewhat" different. Although backlinks didn't show up, that particular page went UP to top 10 very fast.

So... not everything is seen in the open, but something is working.

EDIT: This was a IM keyword, which I am sure helped my "test".

      Interesting.

When you say "similiar" ...how similiar?

Did you do any other form or promotion? ...or just the signature links.

In this case I know for certain, 100%, that I've done nothing else.

I havent checked rankings though. Might have a quick look now.

      Hmm...

No promotion at all, just the backlink (1) from my sig pointing to a specific page.

I have had the same success. The more my post count goes up the higher my rankings increase. I had some very competitive keywords that were really picky and would not budge and after a good 20 or so posts they moved up about 4-5 positions to about position 8 and 6 in just a matter of days.

Gotta love the warriorforum for having some quality links

What about rankings for that particular page/post?

I mean, "tools" might not "get" the backlinks, BUT Google surely knows how to "track" these links and give them some "score".

Sorry, too technical, but in the end it's what I get from it.

No. Rankings are still the same.

        Nowhere to be found.

Be mindful though, that this was just a quick test to see if there was any impact.

    Hey John,

When you change your sig link does it change all of your existing posts or only ones you make from this point on?

If it's a good niche, you'll find more competition showing up so you'll have to do even more work link building to out rank them.

I do not have my signature links pointing to my site but just my WF sales page.
Interesting though because when I put up a WSO earlier it was on page 1 on G for my targeted keyword.

It shows up but depending what program/site I use to check it.

Some show 0 back links some 200+

But I found it be indexed rather fast compared to some other ones.

Backlink counts are notoriously unreliable. The backlink obviously exists - you can see it in your signature. Different spiders will crawl this forum at different rates.

With over 3400 posts by you, Google probably first noted the backlink within hours, probably within minutes after you changed your signature. Within a few weeks, the Googlebot will almost have certainly crawled most if not all of your posts on this site. They still may not show it when they show you backlinks, but they only show a very small sample of the actual backlinks you have.

      You're right.

I see WF links within GWT but not within MS.

I guess it depends heavily on where you look

Glad to see another Smart marketer using GWT. I keep seeing threads these days claiming that using it will hard your sites, but I have many high PR sites and they all use GWT. I think that having it, may in fact be one of the factors of the algorithm, although I obviously can't prove that!

I've seen them show up before. Terry Kyle used to advocate a "signature surge" technique where, if you had many posts on a particular forum, you would throw a link in your sig with anchor text to boost rankings for an already established site, not a new site, and many people had success with it. I can't say whether or not mine have really helped rankings, because I didn't do a test in which all other variables were held constant.

It would be nice If people would stop promoting WF sig spam, I get tired of reporting all the BS threads.

Forum sigs suck as far as SEO anyways. What are you getting , a powerful PR0 link?

yukon, I did this merely as a test. Its not a core property of my search engine marketing strategy. I did it simply "out of curiosity".

I found myself pushing keyword rich links in my signature without really knowing for certain as to whether or not they were effective.

This was a case of asking myself "Why am I actually doing this?"

The amount of traffic you can get from them is great. If they move your rank up that is just icing on the cake.

Well, you have over 3k posts. Lets say in a week they are all crawled and you get some link juice. So you rank up, but say in a couple of months though you change your sig, removing 3k backlinks. That may damage you in the long run, but who knows since they are low quality sig links.

It depends on the method you are trying to understand your backlinks. These backlinks are already "live", but not yet indexed by google. You could ping some of your posts. Once google visit these pages, it should soon update them and see your NEW website. I am sure about 2k of your posts were made 2009 and 2010, so they are ... old for google search engine robot to think "I should visit it again...". You can easily do this with the bulkping services. Just google: site:warriorforum.com "YOUR USERNAME" and you will see most of your replies/threads. Then just ping them (you can use a software to get all the URLS at once. Once you ping them, I am sure you will get a great SERP for your website... 3k posts are equal to about 2,7-2,8k unique backlinks! Which is great NOT ONLY for a low competition keyword, but also for a medium one. Good Luck

Signature links are often useful. But I think it should be attractive so that people will be interested in and click, also it has something to do with keywords, if you put a keyword in your signature and points to your site, this may help you a lot. Try.
