Google dropped my 2K site

Has anyone else noticed sites dropping from google?

Don`t know if this has anything to do with recent google updates but one of my best money-making sites have dropped from page one #3...and it`s not in first 1000 results anymore...

It`s not banned, still indexed, it has lots and lots of good quality high pr links and unique quality content but not ranking for my main kw`s anymore.

That Site has generated me about 2K monthly and I`m really p*ssed off because this happened in matter of few hours without warning.

So, anyone else suffered from this lately and any advice how to get my site back.

-Lauri

Dropped sites generally come from a few causes.

    Site issues:
Did the structure of your site drastically change recently?
Did your page load time drastically increase?
Did you get infected with any viruses?

    Shady Backlinks:
    Did you purchase links?
Did you do any other shady blackhat type link building?

Look into these issues and see if you can uncover the cause. You can also try contacting Google and see what they say.

90% of the time the site will bounce back without any intervention required. Just give it a few weeks and see what happens, it's highly unlikely that whatever is going on will last for anymore than a few weeks or few months at best.

Sadly these things just happen sometimes.

Do you have used any kind of spam links before? Maybe a competitor reported you and that triggered a manual review.

Site structure hasn`t changed that much. I have added two pages (it`s wp blog) within a week. No viruses, I don`t do spammy links. I build my links manually to high pr sites and I use keyword backlinks monthly service (bought here at WF and have been happy with them)

Where can I contact google to ask what has happened?

    Thanks,

What kind of links did you buy?

Also for your own protection, you should not post your money sites on any public forums...

Dont panic so much, sites are drooped for many reasons and most of them bounce back, just be little patient and dont take more bad steps, just check your seo strtegy i its fine thn no problem you may get it soon back at the same position.

    Hey Lauri,

You can wait for a few days before hitting the panic button. It should be just a temporary drop in rankings, keep building good quality backlinks to it and you should be doing just fine.

    Cheers

Okay, thanks for your advice. I`ll keep building links and hope things get fixed up.
(This still sucks big time tho `cause I`m losing big profits in the process...)

Well, what can we learn about this?

Build lots of sites so if big G drops one, you won`t lose it all...I`m glad I still have plenty of sites that rank nicely...

I installed simple-tags plugin about a week ago. Anyone has had bad experiences using it? Can it affect this much? (I highly doubt but worth asking)

If that plugin creates loads of tags automatically then you may have hundreds of tag pages which are effectively duplicate content. I would avoid that kind of plugin. Have you done a count of how many pages you have indexed in Google currently? If it seems way too many that could be the problem.

P.s. Finnish is the coolest language on earth!

I see 41 results with site:http: //lainaanopeastinetista...and there are lots of results that have /tag/keyword pointing to my site...

Not sure if that`s too many results?

I´ve also removed adsense ads above the fold (heard new google update doesn`t like ads there) and resubmitted to goole via WM tools

P.S. Yeah, Finnish is cool language and I´ve heard it`s really hard to learn if you`re not "natural-born-Finn"... thanks and kiitos for mentioning!

Lauri, hyvää päivää! (love it the only other word, apart from the numbers, that I can remember, is juustohöylä, for some reason!)

OK, I had a look at your results in the Google index - I think you DO have a problem with those tag pages. I can't say for sure that Google has penalised you in some way for that, but you have just a handful of actual content pages and all the rest are tag pages - that's DEFINITELY something Google doesn't like. I had the same problem using the Search Terms tags plugin (or whatever it's called). Although I didn't get penalised, I took it off when I realised what was happening, I had the same thing - like hundreds of duplicate content pages.

Probably your best option is just to put noindex on the tag pages, easy to do.

I took a more extreme route - because my pages were something like mysite.com/searchtag/fish (i.e some custom tag page keyword in the URL) then I did a 301 redirect on ALL my tag pages back to my home page. That killed my home page for a couple of weeks, but once the Google index sorted itself out, I was back on page one. The only thing is I never got penalised (if that's what's happened here), but it is worth trying.

I mean, your site is generally a bit, well, "thin", I mean it's a fairly typical "Adsense" site, if you know what I mean. So it may also have got penalised for any other number of factors - who knows what Google is looking at these days. Monochrome template, ads above the fold, little else going on on the site other than text and ads, no physical address, no signs of a brand/bricks-and-mortar company like unique logo, unique template etc. etc.

I feel for you if this is costing you big money, but at the same time that kind of is the risk we take with these kinds of site (yes, I have them too!) so there may be no saving it. Let's hope I am wrong though.

Thanks for your reply. So, the best way to block tags from google?
Is it using Disallow /tag in robots.txt or is there a better way?

Yeah, my site is only about
7 months old and I`ve heard rumors that google has been kicking down young loan sites...and also read about google`s "ads above the fold" -penalty...(not good for user experience says google)

Gee...most of the time google is my best friend as it ranks my sites very well but when these things happen...

Oh, by the way, that theme has been a real success for lots of my sites but as you said, you never know what google is up to next.

            Thanks again,

I also use All in one seo pack. There`s option called "Use noindex for Tag Archives". Maybe using that option stops spiders from crawling my tag pages?

          Hey Laurie,

I know that a lot of 'Sniper' type sites have been hit pretty hard with this most recent Panda update.

Others have suggested waiting patiently and continuing the backlinking. This my be one method and something you may want to consider...

The other thing would be what about trying to branch out your site a bit to become more 'authoritative' in googles eyes... pick a few other KW's in the finance niche possibly related to other types of loans, and start adding those as pages to your site?

If you were doing any type of link building your site probably won't bounce back.

Google are openly communicating their latest "notice of detected unnatural links" penalty. If you use Google Webmaster Tools you may see the message from Google there, if not then they still impose the penalty and you can recognise it by a sudden drop in rankings.

One of my sites that's been pulling in 400 UV a day recently took a little dance too. It's hard to tell if it was random, but I did make a site wide link change. After changing it back the site jumped back up to the front page. When you have a high ranking site you have to be careful of any little changes.

Big problems I've encountered in the past are the main page of any Wordpress based website. Your key word densities and content can constantly be changing when/if you're adding posts and this can cause dancing in the SERPs for your root domain.

I have been told that this happens often. All you probably have to do is just resubmit your site map and all will be fine. If nothing really changed, google will pick it back up even if you don't resubmit. As long as you have not used any black hat sep techniques. But from the sound of it, you should be good.

Okay, my site is not showing any signs of rising up in rankings...

But if that`s what google wants, it`s ok. I`m not going to spend any more time with that site and if it comes back to page 1 someday, great.

Meanwhile I`ve already built 3 sites covering that same niche and one of my sites (put it up 4 days ago) is already in positions 11 and 13 for two main keywords . I expect these 3 sites to cover my financial loss pretty soon...

So, anyone who has been punished by the big G this is my advice: if you find a good and profitable niche, build several sites around that same niche so if google drops out 1 you still have plenty making you $$$ or €€€..

That's good news, thanks for updating. I would gradually work on beefing up the site, making it look less "thin", more "authority", more quality content etc. Although that might reduce conversion rates a little, your site will rank for more terms, plus there will be less chance of getting slapped again soon.
