Homepage with different title and descritpion?

Im doing some research on an existing ecommerce site they want some help with so i thought id get some details on their current seo state. Their homepage title and description tags change depending on which keyword is searched for at the time...keyword one ranks number 1 in google.co.uk and the second kw ranks on page 3 and its that they want help with.
What i cant work out is how they are managing to have the different titles and description yet the homepage content doesn't change just the title and description tags. The only thing i can put it down to is they use a cart that somehow enables this. Anyone got any other ideas?
