What type of backlinks are you using for new sites?

Just a few months ago bookmarks where probably one of the safest ways to season a new website. You could blast 1000 direct bookmarks at a site and it would pop it into the serps. In recent months this is no longer effective and bookmarks are now more dangerous than ever for new sites.

So the question is what is the alternative or new safe way to pop a site into the SERPs without risking the sandbox?

  • Article submission and keywords posting are more safer than it I think. You can have a try. Sure, they are helpful/
  • I found social bookmarking to be quite effective as well as some quality directory submissions with deep links. For all the naysayers I think a Yahoo directory listing is worth it also in the long term.
  • I think good content, forum commenting , blog commenting and article submissions is enough for new sites.

    Who said bookmarks are dangerous?

    Any weak links that you blast in the 1000s at once will be dangerous for new sites ...

    • Wrong. You could easily blast a brand new site with as many as 2000 SBs overnight not to long ago and have it pop into the search results with very little to no bouncing, you just had to make sure you had a decent anchor text diversity. How do I know this? Because I actually speak from experience and tested it with over 50 new sites. Unfortunately this method is no longer effective since around the beginning of February hence why I am wondering what others are doing and finding effective on new sites.

  • For new sites stick with high pr blog comments and press releases. Social bookmarks are good for getting stuff indexed but I haven't seen evidence of them helping SERP ranking much.

    • That. High quality stuff for ranking and low quality for indexing and adding some value to backlinks.
  • It is sometimes very hard to get quality High PR backlinks (if it is a blog commenting, you should stick to write an unique comment, that is really useful!).. Maybe article marketing and forum marketing are great for a new website

    • It really is not that hard if you know where to find them. You can usually get pretty good deals on forums such as WaFo OR I'm also finding a lot of good opportunity from members of my community and skype groups. Also, if you're website is high quality, you can probably go the guest posting road and contact other webmasters to get a link back in exchange, even tough it's usually longer that way.

  • Of course. I just had a PR launched today as a matter of fact. They can cause temporary dancing with new sites because the number of high authority news sites that end up publishing them varies. That being, I've never had a new site nuked from them. It always comes back strong after a dance, if it even has one. I don't know what to say about your situation unfortunately.

  • For new sites, I create a Twitter Account, Google+ Page, A Feedburner Feed, A Youtube Channel and a FriendFeed.

    On each account, I link back to the new site. (nofollow/dofollow ..it doesn't matter).

    I also link between them where appropriate. For example, from the G+ page, you might link to your Twitter and your Youtube. From Youtube, you might link to twitter... ETC. But don't overdo it or make it look forced.

    From your site, you dofollow link to a few of these pages. I usually just go with the Youtube, G+ and Twitter.

    That's part 1.

    Next you setup automatic updating. So as new posts are live on your site, those pages get updated. For youtube, I post a few unique and useful videos related to the site.

    This works and is safe and also works towards building your brand.

    Proof? Pull up the link profile of a random authority site on OSE.org. More than likely you will see their social properties listed at the top of their link reports.

  • Social Bookmarking is still effective method. But it needs to be executed on the basis of selective and preferred grounds. The social bookmarks hardly appear in SERPs unless there are few comments to their credit.
  • Imagine mister John Doe. He's a normal guy. Never visited an IM forum. What does he do to promote his new site?

    Just clone it. It's obvious, it's safe and it's natural.

    I don't understand how this keeps getting passed around the IM world and people believe in this because one person said so....lol...

    New sites, old sites, I use the exact same backlinking strategies for both... It's more about how many and how fast you obtain them...

    But I diversify with a great deal of consistency...
  • These are simply just the waves of the ocean. Everything comes in different waves and currents in the SeO industry . Bookmarking is still effective, but much harder to make it so then some more unutilized resources and at some point after everybody gets distracted and their focus brought off of bookmarking like other resources to distribute your content and may become easier to utilize that resource Once again.

    Your fundamental underlining question here is what is the new most effective resource and I personally have found distributing content to document sharing sites extremely effective, especially when you properly interact within the communities.
  • How well did the sites you blasted with social bookmarks, back when they were magic, retain their ranking?
  • I use a HIGH PR .gov, blog commenting (real comments) and forum posting. It really helps.
