I made a mistake in analyzing my keyword and my site now tops for that keyword but there are no visitors. My domains are keyword rich domain. Now how do I keep the same ranking and change the keyword. Below is the example.
Current keyword: Nike shoes-----ranks top but no visits
Targeted keyword: Footwear----- no ranking but there are visitors and I need ranking for this. If my site is nikeshoes.com, how do I optimize it for footwear now?

just start link building again with that new anchor text, and continue the link building with the current keyword to maintain it's rank.

    simple as that.

If that keyword have high competition then it will be difficult to get top ranking by replacing the keywords but still for new keyword you need to do proper off-page and on-page to get ranking.

With replacing your off-page will be less lengthy and you will require less work but still you will require some work...

I think the only option you have left is to focus on quality link building for your desired keyword... and don't use same anchor text everywhere, instead use 3-4 related keywords.. such as Footwear, Gents Footwear, Ladies Footwear and Child's Footwear, as Google announced that using same anchor text for link building may cause you SERP drop.

My friend and I built a website and ranked it for a keyword that had a lot of exact searches monthly. It ranked top 3 for that keyword, but it was a non-buyer keyword so you can say our keyword analysis went wrong also. It brought in no sales at all. So all I can say is, suck it up and start another link building campaign for another keyword.

Target it just like you targeted the other keyword
