Hi! Just wondering because I'm in middle of purchasing a great domain name.

Is it a myth that .com domains rank better in Google and in the major search engines than .net, .org, .info, etc.?

Thanks,

Jimmy

It's a myth yes and no tree is plenty of .net and .org ranking really well, but .com is always the best for branding.. Also it probably carry more trust to user. For niche site though I have 90% of .net and .org and they rank very well so..

The only times I believe it matters are if you are branding, or if the crowd you are serving is really internet savvy. For instance if I'm looking for information on something important to me, I will give a .info less credibility just from experiencing low quality sites on .info domains when browsing. I highly doubt your typical internet user will even notice. I also have ranked .net/.org just as easily as .com.

According to me .com domain has huge power for ranking terms in SERP better than other domains like .net,.org and .cc

I personally think the most important benefit of a .com domain is the fact that most people (or at least most average people) think most websites are .com sites, so if they are going to search for your company (branding as other mentioned), they are more likely to put yourbrand.com into their browser and if your competitor has that domain name, guess what? You just lost a costumer to your compatitor.

No TLD has any super powers over the next one.

Yes, .com is the most recognized TLD, and if people are typing in a domain name instead of doing a search then they will most likely type .com at the end over anything else. UNLESS of course they have been to the site many times and know that it ends in something else.

Anyone who tells you that a .com is going to outrank anything else is full of it and you should stop taking advice from them ASAP.

Now, for resell ability, the .com is going to take the cake on that. Only for the fact that everyone knows .com.

But in the end, if you are selling your website and it is a .info lets say, and it is making $500/month, then I am sure there is someone who is going to see the value in that and give you what it is worth.

    .NET for network sites
    .ORG for organizations
.COM for business or personal sites.

Yep! .com is even better especially if it is your own site and you are targeting global audience

It's not entirely a myth if a user types an exact keyword it'll go to the .com, not other tlds. and while i've have no issue ranking .info, .com and .net almost command more trusting power, as spammers unfortunately have made .info useless.

.Com and .Org ranks best. .Net Works fine but needs extra work. And .Info is total waste and don't have any experience with other extensions.

As already been said on the previous posts, no TLD are better than the other. You just said .com and .org ranks best because you have seen a lot of them ranked well. But that's not the case at all.

Generally, you could rank whatever TLD's you want. It will all come down on how you will work for it.

For taskeman, it's up to you man if what type of TLD you want to choose.

I would say yes... Domain extension matters in case when you are targeting geographic location. If you think that .com domain can rank better from .edu or something, this is not completely true. Any domain extension can out rank .com domain. Take example of wikipedia.org, it is outranking almost every website of .com domain.

    Yes it is.

.com is just better in case you decide to sell the site but in terms of SEO there's no difference.

I recently made two small sites, one with .com and one .info and found the .com ranked much quicker even though it was for a more competitive keyword. Of course this could be due to a number of factors but just something I noticed.
