How can I improve AdSense CTR?!

Hello fellow warriors here is my question.

I'v got this site footballmanagerblog[dot]org that has around 15.000 unique visitors each month, and the ways I'm using to monetize my site are content lockers from CPAlead and Google AdSense ads.

I'm satisfied how my site is performing on the CPA part, but my CTR for AdSense is very low -> 0.25%

I'm making around 5$ from Google per month this way, and my CTR is not getting any higher no matter what I do!

For example, I tired all versions of ad types (text, image, or combined), also I customized the ads to match my blog layout, I tried different ads positions... And no matter what I can't make my CTR higher and my earnings.

What am I doing wrong? Or is my number of visitors too low for any serious or mediocre results (earnings) with AdSense? Should I give up AdSense?

I'm really hoping for some quality suggestions from you guys.

    1. My antivirus goes into panic mode when visiting your site. Something to do with whatever cpalead code you're running. Fix that.

    2. Poor placement of the 728x90. It doesn't even fit and is cut off. Remove it all together. It doesn't work well for most sites, certainly not this one.

    3. On Posts pages, Place a 336x280 between your content and the disqus comments. Place a 300x250 right aligned at the top of the content.

    4. Where is your traffic coming from? What type? Some sources just don't convert into clicks or actions.

Thanks retsek for your replay, I truly appreciate it.

    OK so it's like this,

    1. I don't know what antivirus you use, but NOD32 is blocking my site because of the CPAlead code. I wrote to them to take my site as it is not a malicious one, but never received a replay from them.

    2. I removed it immediately.

    3. Should the ads be image or text? What works better?

    4. My traffic sources are:

    51% search traffic

    34% referral traffic

    15% direct traffic

I notice that image ads work best for my Adsense. I may not get a higher CTR but I get a better CPC payout. Your ad placement is really bad as Retsek said but you may need for focus on putting some CPA offers in from other affiliate programs. One possibility would be to sign up for sports related website affiliate programs, could even be a fantasy football site. The ads I am seeing currently are not very targeted at all.

Yes I joined webgains affiliate program last month, and they said exactly what you said (fantasy football) and offered me to promote Goal United, online manager game. So the theme is very similar to my niche.

It has been going really good with them last month and I'm really pleased with the results, way more better then AdSense.

But I would really like to make some money from Google, I'm just so frustrated not being able to make any cash with them

You just need to test different ad placements, ad sizes and color. There is no silver bullet when it comes to Adsense because what works on one site might not work on another.

I know the ad placement is a big deal to adsens, but as I mentioned earlier I tried out all the places for my ads and my CTR is not changing. I always left the different ad placement for about a month to see the results, but nothing I do is helping me progress.

Anytime you have different ad stretegies competing, it is going to affect ctr.

That said, I see a huge CTR issue on your site. Your adsense ads are not relevent to your content. This will always result in horrible CTR.

How do I change that? Make the ads more relevant?

OR is this something Google does automatically by going through my keywords or something?

Well most of my competitor sites have some university ads shown by google, and the ads are for UK universities, from where most of my traffic is coming from. But I can't figure out how to show the same ads as they are...

Is there a way? Maybe to block some ads in adsense panel???

Yes, there is a tab called Allow and Block Ads. You can block URLs or categories. I believe this is for your whole account, so be careful that you are not messing up your other sites.

There are like 450 something pages and each has 20 ads, that is a lot of ads to look through
