In our industry (the Payment processing Industry) some of our keywords are up to 15$ bucks a click. Is their tricks to the trade of getting a better ROI or software that I can see what works better for our competition.

Our whole game plan is Really low cost to get customers but seems like getting clients through PPC and SEM is so expensive.

Any advice would be much appreciated

  • I suppose it all boils down to what is the lifetime worth of your customers. I'm assuming that if your competition want to pay $15 per click then that lifetime value is pretty high.

If you dont want to pay that kind of money then just go where your clients are online (like here for example) and offer expert advice and help. Word of mouth spreads pretty fast in an industry where people hang out on forums all day.

However you already have Subway, Quiznos, Hilton and Best Western as customers so you must be doing something right, right? I'd keep doing whatever it was you did to get those customers.
  • Exactly what avhow said: if some are willing to pay up to $15 per click, then it must be worth it. Now if you just look at the keyword tool and see $15, remember that's to get the top spots (where you want to be anyway) and assumes you have an average QS. With better QS, I'm sure you can bring that down to $10 or less.

What you have to consider too is how much does a lead cost using other methods? You may find that PPC is a relative bargain.
  • If you have money to spend, PPC is good for initial testing of profitable niches, then tweak, and go back and scale your profitable niches you discovered in PPC with SEO

    • Hi TecPay,

Yes, there are definitely tricks of the trade. However, they are not secret, those tricks are well known among experienced AdWords professionals. If fact we don't call them tricks, we call them "Best Practices".

You need to learn about things like:
      • Writing compelling ads that generate high CTRs.
      • How the position bidding system works and the role that Quality Scores play in your CPC.
      • How the Quality Score formula is calculated.
      • How the relevancy between keywords, ad text and landing pages effect your conversion rates.
      • How to design landing pages thet generate high conversion rates.
      • How to stucture your account for optimizing profits.
      • How to perform keywords research and make proper selections based on commercial intent and extreme relevancy.
      • Advanced bidding strategies that drive away competitors.

      Here is some advice:
      • Do not judge the viability of keyword based solely on the cost per click.
      • ROI is a useful metric for comparison purposes, but should not be a primary objective.
      • Make your primary objective maximum profits, not low customer acquisition costs or high ROI.

  • Yes, you are right PPC and SEM is so expensive but you have enough money to spend PPC is good for get traffic.
  • It depends on several things: how much do you want to grow, how well do your sales reps convert leads into sales, hat are you willing to pay for a new customer.
  • i think running your ppc along with organic seo till you get top 10 ranking in organinc seo is good.

  • Its depends on your Campaigns. It can bring good enquiry but it dosent give 100% results, some time you have to pay 10k to get business worth 5k only .. so then you have to decide what you want to do!

    Organic is better option.

    • PLease clarify Seo or PPC

  • The trick of the the trade is thorough keyword analysis, fine-tuned targeting, creating compelling and finally a lot of testing to know what is working and what is not working.

For software I would suggest you use Market Samurai for keyword research, SpeedPPC for setting multiple campaigns and lastly Prosper202 for monitoring and tracking.
