Here is my suggestion;

1. Write original and high quality articles and the submit to ezinearticles.com or any other article directories
2. Find niche-specific blogs and make relevant and insightful comments
3. Sign up to various forums and contribute by making useful and captivating comments
4. Don't SPAM

Quality comments on PR1+ blog posts is one method, another is one that's often overlooked. Simply search for keywords related to your niche and reach out to the owners of blogs on the first few pages of results. This works especially well in non-IM niches.

You'd be surprised how many blog owners take it as a compliment and are more than happy to link to your site. If it's a blogroll style link you'll get a link from their homepage + every other page on their site.

There is no way to generate thousand of backlinks (or if there is .., it would be spammy one!).. Concentrate on Forum and Article Marketing

My advise mate don't go for auto backlinks, just use the methods of SEO like social bookmarking site this will take time coz the free submission do take time, also create your own blog and leave your textual links in it, comment on high ranked blog with your website name and URL also use forums for that purpose

news sites, which are related, of high page rank, dofollow and allow the
hyperlink submission. Just use Google search.

Then you make a plan, how you will write or submit your hyperlink

Guest posting is the way to go. Here's the process in short:

1. Find bloggers and other websites in your niche with medium to high authority in your niche.
2. Introduce yourself and your business to them via social media, email, phone or IRL.
3. Build a relationship with them; ask about their business, interests etc.
4. Ask to guest post/write on their blog or website.

If you provide quality content to that audience that peaks their interest, you'll get all the links and traffic you'll ever need.

Writing a good seo press release will give you many backlinks. Guest posting is also another way to get powerful backlinks AND a lot of traffic at the same time...you want to make sure that your site is full of valuable content.

Most of the suggestions in this thread are pretty inaccurate.

Forum Posting? Not a high PR backlink unless you're lucky enough to be on page 1 of a PR1+ thread.

Article Submission? You're thrown into the mix with thousands of other articles on PR N/A inner pages.

Social Bookmarking? No way.

I could go on and on. These are not high PR backlinks. A high PR backlink is a backlink from a PAGE that has a high PR.

A backlink from a PR N/A page on a PR6 domain is NOT the same as a backlink from a PR6 page.

1. Write quality articles and submit them to Ezinearticles, Goarticles, Articlesbase etc.
2. Find relevant blogs to your niche and leave a nice comment with your anchor text.
3. Find relevant blogs to your niche and ask them to publish your article as a guest post.
4. Sign up to relevant forums and reply to threads with your link as a signature.
5. Build Web 2.0 properties such as Blogger, Wordpress, Webs, Tumblr.

If you want this for FREE then create your own high PR web 2.0 blogs they will be initially PR ZERO on them but you can do tiered link building in order to have PR on them eventually after few months... and until PR shown up it even pass link juice to your website...

There are many .edu site powered by word press... try commenting in good manner and you can earn PR links. but approval rate is very low.

Search like : site:.edu "your Niche" "powered by wordpress"
you will get list of edu sites .
