Well the past few days I have been building backlinks manually via guest posting. Today I check the # of backlinks I have today on MajesticSEO and it says that a one of the sites I commented on gave me 380 external backlinks. How does that work?
#380 #backlinks #comment

      lolwat?

My first guess is that the forum has a list of new members, which is posted all over the site, and you're on that list. If that's the case then almost all of the links will be gone within a week.

      WHAT???

As others have said, you probably ended up on a blogroll / sidebar.

      No need to worry.

The reason it says you may have many backlinks from the domain you commented on is because lots of sites have a 'latest comments' thing in their sidebar, this means your comment may appear across all of the pages that the sidebar appears on too. That's probably exactly what you're experiencing.

This. Latest comment sidebar are really a great way to get a lot of quality backlinks if it happens to be an authority blog in your niche. Even better than that are top commentors sidebar, which is most likely to give you a backlink for a longer time! Definitely keep commenting if that's the case (beside the traffic you might get, a do-follow link in the sidebar would be killer, right)

Sidebar links are pretty low quality. I wouldn't strive for them.

OP, Maverick gave you the correct answer. This happens all the time. As your link moves off of their Recent Posts or Recent Comments plugin and their site gets spidered again, it will work itself out. Nothing to worry about.

It doesn't make sense that you got 380 backlinks from one blog comment. Are you sure you are not missing something?

Autoblogging can be a reason for this. Many autobloggers extract comments with contents. You must have commented on a very popular post.

A lot of blogs have the Latest Comment plugin installed which causes that to happen. You can also use ScrapeBox to find blogs like that.

You can also use StatCounter. It is free, and lists where your traffic is coming from. Interesting story though. I would love to get all kinds of new traffic! :-)

Yes, that's true. You get so many backlinks because of the recent comments widget. This widget shows on all the pages.
