  • Moving your hosting should not have an impact that fast IMHO
  • Dam!! I'm about to do the same, how can you avoid this?
  • Did your site have downtime?

Or did you move the content ahead of time and then just switch the DNS?

    • Sorry, i moved content then switched name servers.
  • Yes it had downtime for about 2hours, why?

    • If the search engines spider your site and find it really slow or down, that can impact your rankings.

2 hours probably isn't enough to have affect that though unless you are terribly unlucky.

are you on a shared hosting account?

if so, the ip address of the server could be labeled as a "bad neighbor" by google.

Basically if google finds that people using that IP are up to blackhat seo stuff they will punish the ip. How much and such is truly anyone's guess though.

  • yeah load time of the site is kind of important could be google dance. Too many variables without knowing more of the details . You're competition could have just had 200 links indexed who knows

    • 200 links, So i drop 3 pages i was on page 1 at no.2? Thanks
  • Switching hosts does indeed affect your ranks. This happened to a site of mine that was on page 2 for a competitive keyword. Once I switched hosts, the site disappeared from Google's listings for 2 days I think. Then it went back to normal.

Basically, switching your hosts throws up a red flag in Google for a reason which I am not too sure about. Your ranks fluctuate because Google is trying to see what your site is doing.

If the SEO you've done to that site is white hat and all ethical, your ranks will come back. If the SEO you've performed is black hat and spammy, you can be assured that your site's ranks will not come back.

    • Sign out of google or choose hide personal results over on the right by the settings. I think it is showing your personal results.

  • It happens when switching web hosts so be very careful with your web host. Choose a better one rather than changing every year.
Keep working on your website and you should get your rankings back
  • If the web host is decent, load times are fine etc you should be okay. build some links to the site and you should bounce back.
  • When someone change their website then there might be downtime. In that time if Google bot came to your website but can't get the info then your SERP will be affected.

Best choice is to host your site to "top 10 hosting providers" from the very beginning. Because they don't have any downtime issues...
