New Website SEO..I need help

I have a new website and looking for some ways to promote it. Vista print offers a service that list my site on "hundreds" of search engines. Not too sure how effective it is. Im willing to put in lots of work to promote the site if anyone can give m some great insight I would more than appreciate it. Thanks in advance.

    There are really only two major search engines that will send you enough traffic to even make it worth your while.

    P.S., getting "listed" in search engines means nothing. Every site gets listed. Ranking on the first page of the search listing for your keyword your goal.

      I thing there is only one major search engine that will send enough converting traffic to your website and that would be google.

      The traffic from bing and yahoo doesn't seem to convert into sales much.

        Are bing searchers aliens without credit cards?

        It's your job to determine the mindset of your user based on your analytics which show you how they got to your site. All the info you need to convert a user or make their visit valuable to you in some way is there. No matter where they typed their search term to get to you. You just have to use it.

    Where do I start? Is there any good methods for getting on first page? Ive been in many forums promoting and such and just wondering whats best way to bring in more traffic?

    Search engine submissions are useless. They will find your links naturally. And you mention "hundreds of search engines"... I can count on one hand the number of major search engines that are worth trying to rank in.

      So a lot has come from in forum advertising. It's a photo site, so I have gone to many forums promoting and such. Also on Flickr i have been doing some promo by posting pics with links to my site.

      Just wondering if there are nay methods you guys can suggest to help further...

    Think about it. How many search engines do you use? Hundreds? Two? Or just one?

    I'm willing to bet that you, and most everyone else, uses just one. And, the "one" that most of them use is Google, Yahoo, or Bing.

    Why worry about the rest?

    Listing in search engines is neither a big thing nor will create any impact on business. Indexing / Crawling of those pages is important. Automative listing solutions are never good rather you should start link bulding to get some good ranking in major search engines. If you can share the URL with me, I can asses the current status of your web pages in details and can suggest you a solution. No charges for it, just a guidance for what you can do on the basis of current status of your pages.

    That would be a waste of money - only Google search engine really matters.

    Do you have a particular keyword in mind that you are trying to rank for and did you do any research on that keyword with Market Samurai?

    Off page SEO
    Submit your website to directories
    Submit articles to website with your links
